Dotty Sutton is the illustrator of Scarlet Defender of the Universe - one of the amazing books nominated in our Longer Book category 🦸‍♀️

She's an Edinburgh-based illustrator and model maker. The dictionary definition of ‘dotty’ is ‘eccentric or slightly mad’, which is a description she is rather flattered by! 🤩

James Davis is the author of Scarlet Defender of the Universe - one of the amazing books nominated in our Longer Book category 🦸‍♀️

He wrote it to try and impress his son Edgar, who was 8 years old at the time. Edgar was really impressed for almost a whole week! 😂

We're looking for volunteers to help with this year's Summer Reading Challenge!

Every year all Inspire libraries take part in the national Summer Reading Challenge. Children aged 4 – 11 are challenged to read six books over the summer.

We are looking for volunteers aged 14+ here at Hucknall Library to encourage children to join and complete the Challenge, explain to them (and their parents and carers) how it works, talk enthusiastically with them about the books they have read, and help them to choose new ones!

Volunteers will need to be free for a two/three hour session per week during the six week school holidays.

InspiREAD 2026 - Meet the nominees! ✨

Nici Gregory is the illustrator of Badgers Are Go! - one of the amazing books nominated in our Shorter Book category 🦡

She started illustrating whilst still in primary school, drawing in the margins of her exercise books. She went on to study graphic design in Hamburg, Germany!

For this year's Inspire Knitting Challenge, we’re celebrating the by bringing crafters together to make Story Snugglers for children!

There’s still plenty of time to get involved - whether you knit or crochet, you can help create a cosy companion for little ones to enjoy at storytime. Make a bear, lion, frog or any colourful creation! 🐻🐸🦁

Our FREE knitting patterns have been designed by Janie Withers knitted textiles, and can be picked up at your local library. You can also follow step-by-step videos online:🔗 inspireculture.org.uk/knit

All Story Snugglers we receive will be donated through our friends at Trussell 💚

We're dedicating our June Crafty Tuesdays to celebrating 10 years of Inspire! 🎂🎉 Keep your eyes on this space to see all the birthday fun we've got planned - from Giant Games to decorating our children's section with bunting 🎊 there's plenty of fun birthday crafting to enjoy! 🎨

Our first Crafty Tuesday after the half-term break is 2nd June, 3:30-4:30pm. See you there! 🤩

Crafty Tuesdays are free to attend with no booking required, every Tuesday (term-time only) from 3:30 until 4:30pm.

We're currently experiencing some technical issues across our libraries which is affecting our booking out system, online catalogue and public PCs.

Please use our self serve kiosks where possible and be aware that our online catalogue isn't allowing customers to login. There's also logging in issues for customers wishing to use our public PCs.
