Mencap in Kirklees works with people who have learning disabilities and their families to enable them to lead full and purposeful lives.

Mencap In Kirklees is delighted to be launching a new Women’s Group in Batley, designed specifically to support women from minority backgrounds who provide unpaid care for family members with learning disabilities and additional support needs.

🌟 A culturally inclusive space based at Jo Cox House, where women can connect, share experiences, and access practical support. 🌟

Many unpaid carers face significant challenges alongside their caring responsibilities.
Language barriers, cultural expectations, social isolation, financial pressures, and difficulties accessing services can all add to the demands of daily life. For some women,
navigating health and social care systems can feel overwhelming, while others may be
unaware of the support available to them.

🤝 The Women’s Group will meet on alternate Mondays from 28 September 2026 at Fresh Futures, Jo Cox House.

This has been developed by Tracy Sims in partnership with Gulzeb Wasti from Home

Branches Day Service supports people aged 40 and over with a Learning Disability. 💚

We have so many great activities to get involved in. You can practise and learn life skills and just have a good time!

We have activities at The Whitfield Centre, where we're based, and we also have regular day trips, so there's always something to look forward to.

We're taking a moment to look back at the incredible celebrations we held over the summer for Mencap in Kirklees' 80th birthday celebrations!

If you joined us on the day back in July, you'll know just how much fun was had celebrating, with awards for some of the incredible people who make Mencap in Kirklees what it is, wonderful entertainment and fabulous food, as we celebrated while raising money and looked back over the last 80 years of achievements and change. 💚

Waverley Hall Day Service for People with a Learning Disability. 💚

Our staff are caring and experienced and we offer a vast range of different activities. We also work in partnership with other organisations to bring even more choices, helping those with learning disabilities to lead fulfilling and active lives.

We have spaces available and would love to see you visit us at Waverley Hall, Waverley Road, Huddersfield.

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who was part of our 80th Birthday celebrations last weekend! Wow, what a day! 💚

This was an incredible celebration of everything Mencap in Kirklees has achieved in their 80 years. 🎂 A look back at past achievements and an acknowledgement of the present and future, marked by congratulating and celebrating those who have made significant achievements this year!

The day consisted of pride, laughter, awards, delicious food, a wonderful atmosphere, fundraising and excellent entertainment!

Our awards highlighted the selfless, caring and dedicated contributions of so many people in the Mencap in Kirklees community. From carers to support workers, volunteers, trustees and everyone in between — we really are so lucky to have this community!
