Foster for Kirklees

Foster for Kirklees Kirklees urgently needs more foster carers! Could you offer a safe, loving home to a child? Get in touch today and find out how you can make a real difference.

Whether you're just curious or ready to take the next step, we’re here to help. At Kirklees we’re working hard to recruit many more foster cares who can offer their home to a Kirklees child. All you really need is time and a spare bedroom for the foster child. There are no hard and fast rules; we assess everybody on their own merit and individual circumstances. We welcome applications from people,

whatever their marital status, sexuality, religious or cultural background. People who foster with us can be homeowners or renting, employed or unemployed, retired or on benefits and be with or without children. Foster caring can be one of the most challenging, yet enjoyable and rewarding things you ever do in your life. By becoming a foster carer, you are providing a loving, caring environment for children and young people at a time when they need it most, whether it’s for a few weeks, months or longer-term. Our foster carers do an amazing job, helping to protect, support and care for some of the most vulnerable children and young people in Kirklees. Fostering with your local council helps ensure that the children can remain in their home town or city. This often allows them to stay on at their school with their friends, providing stability at a time of immense change. But with an ever-increasing number of children entering the care system there is an urgent need for more people to come forward and take up this vital role. In Kirklees, our experienced, dedicated fostering team can help identify a child or children who will best fit in with your family and circumstances, and we are here to provide you with support and guidance every step of the way. To find out about how you can make a real difference, get in touch with one of our friendly fostering team, who are always happy to help with any questions you might have on 0800 389 0086. You don't need any special qualifications it's your experience and outlook on life that's most important – and we are looking for people who can help make a real, positive difference to a child.

🎉 Big News for Kirklees Fostering! 🎉

We’re delighted to give a huge welcome to Joy and Andy, who are leading our 4th Mockingbird Hub! 💛

This week we celebrated the launch of the hub – with cake, of course 😉 and we are so proud to now have four Mockingbird Hubs supporting our fostering community.

Mockingbird is all about connection, support and belonging. Each hub brings foster families together like an extended family – offering peer support, shared experiences, sleepovers, and a strong network around our children and carers🏡

It’s amazing to see our fostering community continue to grow and strengthen.

What a truly heart warming weekend we had, celebrating our incredible foster carers💛

From those just starting out to those with years of experience, every foster carer was recognised for the difference they make.
A special moment was celebrating Leila, who has dedicated 25 amazing years to fostering🌟

With fun, games, dancing and music, it was a chance to come together and celebrate everything fostering is 🥳

We see you. We thank you. We appreciate you 💛

As we come to the end of the first week of foster care fortnight, we have been reflecting on the importance of coming together💛

Whether it’s through training, coffee mornings, or the support of a Mockingbird hub, connection is at the heart of what we do.

This is Fostering. And this is a day in the life of our foster carers.

After learning about PACE, carers reflect on how playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy shape everyday moments - from building trust to supporting children through the ups and downs of daily life. This learning doesn’t stay in the training room; it lives and breathes in each interaction, every single day 💛💚🩵

At the heart of this year’s Foster Care Fortnight theme — — are the voices that matter most 💛

Here in Kirklees, we’ve been listening to children and young people with lived experience of fostering. We couldn’t choose just one, so we’re sharing two that truly capture the impact foster carers make:

“I have been in my foster carers placement since I was 5 and they have been my family ever since. They make me feel happy and treat me like their own… they make me feel wanted and part of the family — that’s a gift to us.”

“Because I feel safe, and I feel loved… You would really be helping someone who needs to feel safe and supported.”

This is fostering. Real lives, real impact.
