All you really need is time and a spare bedroom for the foster child. There are no hard and fast rules; we assess everybody on their own merit and individual circumstances. We welcome applications from people,
whatever their marital status, sexuality, religious or cultural background. People who foster with us can be homeowners or renting, employed or unemployed, retired or on benefits and be with or without children. Foster caring can be one of the most challenging, yet enjoyable and rewarding things you ever do in your life. By becoming a foster carer, you are providing a loving, caring environment for children and young people at a time when they need it most, whether it’s for a few weeks, months or longer-term. Our foster carers do an amazing job, helping to protect, support and care for some of the most vulnerable children and young people in Kirklees. Fostering with your local council helps ensure that the children can remain in their home town or city. This often allows them to stay on at their school with their friends, providing stability at a time of immense change. But with an ever-increasing number of children entering the care system there is an urgent need for more people to come forward and take up this vital role.
