📢 Free training for families affected by recent DoLS legal changes.

Following a Supreme Court judgment in June, some people are no longer entitled to a Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards authorisation or a Community DoL court order. This family-focused training will explain in plain English:

✅ Who is affected by this judgement and why
✅ Which legal rights may no longer apply
✅ How to challenge decisions about ending a DoLS authorisation
✅ Other legal options and rights that may be available
✅ How to find a solicitor
✅ Legal aid, costs and what families need to know

The session will also explain how decisions about care can be challenged through the Court of Protection and provide practical information to help families plan ahead.

This is a relaxed, informal session by Edge Training & Consultancy, designed specifically for carers and family members.

💚 Today is World Mental Health Day, a day to raise awareness of mental health and remind us of the importance of looking after our wellbeing.

Did you know that Carers Count Kirklees has a dedicated Mental Health Service?

Our specialist service provides free support to unpaid carers aged 18+ who care for someone living with dementia, neurodivergence, a mental health condition, or a drug or alcohol dependency. In some circumstances, we can also provide support to the person being cared for.

We know that caring for someone can be both physically and emotionally demanding, and you don’t have to face it alone.

Our support is tailored to each carer’s individual needs and includes: 💚 One-to-one advice, information and emotional support
💚 Dedicated groups, events and activities
💚 Opportunities to meet and connect with other carers
💚 Peer support and opportunities to learn new skills
💚 Activities to support your health and wellbeing in a safe and supportive environment

Our Carers Count Kirklees Mental Health Partnership is also part of the Working Together Better Partnership in Kirklees.

Calling employers and organisations across Kirklees and Calderdale!

This Carers Rights Day, we’re hosting a special event specifically for employers, businesses and organisations who want to better understand and support the unpaid carers in their workforce.

The Centre for Care at the University of Sheffield will be bringing their fantastic life-size Carers Game to Huddersfield. Step onto the 4m x 4m board and into the shoes of a working carer, experiencing some of the decisions, barriers and challenges people can face while juggling work alongside unpaid caring responsibilities.

We’ll also have an expert panel, information stalls and opportunities to meet other local employers, share ideas and make connections.

When: Thursday 19 November 1.30–4.00pm
Where: Briar Court Hotel, Huddersfield

This event is aimed at employers, managers, HR teams, wellbeing leads and anyone who is interested in supporting their team. Your team cares. So should you!
