We’ve been incredibly busy recently, responding to a wide range of emergency incidents across our community. You may have seen us travelling through Slaithwaite on blue lights and two-tone sirens, sometimes multiple times throughout the day.
Have you ever watched us go past and thought, β€œI wonder if I could do that?”
You could. It could be you. πŸš’
Slaithwaite Fire Station is currently recruiting On-Call Firefighters to join our team.
Being an On-Call Firefighter is about much more than responding to emergencies. You’ll learn incredible and valuable skills, work as part of a close-knit team, help protect the community you live or work in, and make a real difference when people need help the most.
You don’t need to be a fully qualified firefighter when you join us. We’ll provide the training and support you need, and by the end of your probationary period, you’ll be a fully qualified firefighter.
There is one important requirement: to be able to respond when an emergency call comes in, you must live or work within five minutes of Slaithwaite Fire Station.
If you’ve ever thought about becoming a firefighter, now could be the time to take that first step.
Could you be our next On-Call Firefighter?

New Incident Tue 28th July 20:21
On-call crews were mobilised to an unattended fire on a Golcar hillside. We used 2 aqua backpacks to douse the fire and make it safe. The dry grass definitly presented the ability for it to have spread out of control and the fire was in contravention of the Kirklees Public Space Protection Order (PSPO). If you see a fire on Kirklees Council, Yorkshire Water or National Trust land, please report it to West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service on 999.

πŸ”₯ Wildfire at Tintwistle Moor πŸš’
Please be aware that the smoke currently across Meltham, Slaithwaite, Marsden, Golcar and that can be seen and smelled as far away as Brighouse and Elland is from a Wildfire at Tintwistle Moor in Glossop, Derbyshire that has been ongoing for several days. The wind has shifted smoke in our direction today which is coming to settle in the Colne Valley and further afield. There is no ongoing incident in the Kirklees area.

Wildfire at Tintwistle Moor - Update 19:00 hours Saturday 27 June :: Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service

Firefighters from across Derbyshire remain in attendance, supported by partners including the Peak District Fire Operations Group (FOG) and specialist wildfire crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.

RLSS (Royal Life Saving Society) UK Drowning Prevention Week.
Slaithwaite crews have been out talking to people at local wild swimming spots and reservoirs as well as checking vital life saving equipment.
If you're in difficulty in the water, float on your back with arms and legs extended, and shout for help.
If you see someone in difficulty in the water, call 999 and ask for Fire & Rescue. If there's a throwline board there, quote the reference to the Control room staff and they can provide the code to access the throwline as well as getting emergency Responders to the correct location.

πŸ”₯ Moorland Fire Safety Reminder πŸ”₯
As the hot weather continues, we’re urging everyone to act sensibly and responsibly on our moorland.
Today our crews were called to two separate incidents:

β€’ A fire in the open at Blackmoorfoot Reservoir
β€’ A BBQ-related fire at Redbrook

A Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) is active across our moorland, which prohibits BBQs, fires, and any activity that risks ignition. These rules are in place to protect our landscape, wildlife, and communities.
If you see fire or smoke on the moorland, call 999 immediately and ask for the fire service. Early reporting helps prevent small incidents becoming serious wildfires.
Please help us keep our moorland safe.
