Bowling Green Lane Boundary Wall – Works Underway

You may have noticed the fencing going up around the boundary wall on Bowling Green Lane, next to the playground.
During our routine maintenance reviews, we noted that the wall was leaning, and we felt it was best to bring in a structural engineer to assess the issue. Following their inspection, we identified that the wall needs urgent attention, and we wanted to reassure everyone that work is already in progress to make the area safe.
The fencing is there to keep everyone safe while the repair work is carried out.
We expect the repairs to take around a week or so, and we're hopeful they'll be finished in good time for the school's return after the summer holidays.
This is a significant piece of work, the wall has been retaining the bank for many years and needed a proper, large-scale repair rather than a quick fix. As with many of our ageing structures, like this come with a real cost (in the region of £23,000), which is part of the reason your parish precept needs to cover unexpected but essential works like this from time to time. We take the responsible use of that funding seriously and want you to see exactly what it goes towards.
Thank you for your patience while the work is completed, we'll update you here once it's finished.
If you have any questions in the meantime, please don't hesitate to get in touch with the Parish Council Office.

HUNMANBY – GATEWAY TO THE WOLDS SIGN
A huge thank you to the incredibly talented Donna Mindart!
You may have already spotted the beautifully restored "Hunmanby – Gateway to the Wolds" road sign, and we are so thrilled to share the story behind it.
Donna generously volunteered her time and extraordinary artistic skills on behalf of Hunmanby Parish Council and Hunmanby in Bloom to lovingly refurbish this beloved sign. The result is simply stunning — she has repainted it with scenes that speak to the very heart of our village, including our beautiful church, the cenotaph, and the iconic entrance to the Follies.
It is a true labour of love, and a wonderful gift to the whole community.
Beyond this project, Donna is a UK-based pen-and-ink and digital artist whose deeply moving work explores storytelling, emotion, and mental health advocacy. Through intricate, expressive imagery, her art gently shines a light on the quiet spaces between struggle and healing — using creativity as a powerful way to represent thoughts and emotions that can be difficult to put into words. Her work is a reminder of the strength found in imagination, resilience, and the healing power of art.
If Donna's work resonates with you, we'd love for you to support her by visiting her website and sharing it with others:

Hunmanby Community Centre – Refurbishment Project Update

Hunmanby Parish Council is pleased to confirm that planning permission has now been granted for the proposed refurbishment and improvement works to the Community Centre.
The next stage of the project is to secure external funding, including applications to the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The Parish Council has already undertaken a number of consultations as part of this project; however, this is an ongoing process. We are keen to continue engaging with residents, Community Centre users, local groups and stakeholders to ensure the proposals reflect the needs of the whole community.
We are therefore inviting as many people as possible to take a few minutes to complete our consultation. Whether you currently use the Community Centre or not, your views are important and will help shape the future of this valued community asset.
The Parish Council remains committed to working positively with all stakeholders to deliver improvements for the benefit of Hunmanby residents.
Drawings, further information and links to the consultation form are available on the Parish Council website:

With the recent issues with the Co-op cash machine don't forget about the Filey Banking Hub. The Community Bankers from different banks attend on set days. They can help with card issues, payments and transfers. It would be a good idea to visit the website before travelling to Filey to ensure your community banker is in. As far as I'm aware you can pre-book appointments. Hope this helps
