Well…. everything was running ship shape this morning as our very talented Neil Richards entertained us. As usual, our members got up and danced and in some cases they managed a chair- jive! And then….we got a phone call……
Apparently, our resident Dalek had been talent- spotted by Radio Cambridgeshire and they wanted to pop by and do a quick interview! In our usual fashion, we rallied round and Polly went off to get her costume. She didn’t disappoint……..

Today was a day of two halves. This morning, we had a bit of a Dr Who morning. Now we know that Dr Who can be a bit contentious or a bit ‘Marmite’. Some love it, some hate it…. But we did it anyway. Apparently even Mary Whitehouse tried to get it banned because it was too scary! Clare gave a short talk, including some rather unusual facts such as Tom Baker’s scarf was not supposed to be that long and did you know that some of the missing episodes turned up in Nigeria! Thanks to Deb and Kevin for lending us all the bits n bobs, especially the knitted K9-Several members wanted to adopt him! Of course, we had planned a surprise mystery guest at the end…. None other than a real, bone fide Dalek! We promised that no one was exterminated and all the members went home with body parts intact.
One of our members, Erica, sadly passed away recently so in tribute to her, Sally gave a lovely mini- eulogy and talked about the fun times that we had with her. Erica did love an afternoon tea so in her honour, that’s what we did. She once told us that she liked Dr WHO and with her naughty sense of humour, she would’ve thoroughly enjoyed our mystery guest.

A big thank you to everybody for making today such a memorable day. We really appreciate all our volunteers support and of course where would we be without our lovely members.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend xx

This morning was a good day for catch-ups with all the members. As a tribute to the wonderful Dolly Parton, we had her music playing softly in the background as we either played some games or had some rather amusing conversations.
After a hearty lunch of sausages, Yorkshire pudding, potatoes veg and gravy, the members finished with ice-cream, jelly, cream and sprinkles, all lovingly cooked or prepped by Kim, Rob, Jenny and Milly in the kitchen.
Amanda, ‘The Singing Gardener’ entertained us this afternoon with some oldies and ‘youngies’. Lots of ‘dance offs’ in the building today, starting very early with Andy and Clare competing first thing. It was a draw…
Oh, and did we mention that we may have had a little fun with a couple of members and ‘Snapchat’.

We dabbled with a bit of button craft on Friday at the day centre and had a thoroughly relaxing morning. Some of the men chose to play Jenga with our volunteer, Karen, and the laughter that ensued put us all in good spirits. In the afternoon, we were back up on our feet again as the ‘Harmonica Guys' paid us a visit with their crazy antics. A lovely end to a rather busy week.

Aloha and welcome to Hawaii! 🌴🌴Our fabulous community centre was transformed this morning into a little oasis of paradise with dangling parrots, bunting galore and a whole lot of dancing to the upbeat tunes. Platters of fruit were devoured throughout the morning, mocktails flowed and Kim's (now famous) non-alcoholic sangria were served from the Tiki Bar. Of course, no Hawaiian party would be complete without the mandatory “How many volunteers can we get in a grass skirt’ competition. There was palm tree hugging, people hugging and the sun shone without even the merest hint of rain .....we even had a unicorn join us at one point!
The fabulous outdoor area at the Community Centre proved to be exactly what we required. With large tables and super comfy cushions on the chairs there was plenty of space for everyone. Thank you to Gordon, Gavin, Jez and Tiff, who helped to set things up.....it does make things so much easier for the rest of us.
We'd like to say a huge thank you to Rob and Jenny who worked tirelessly to provide us all with a delicious ‘bbq style' lunch, which was followed by Ice-cream all round. It's not an easy thing to cook for so many and it was all timed to perfection. A special thanks to Clare for all her wonderful decorations and props. Thank you also to all the volunteers that go the extra mile each week to bring a smile to our members' faces and thank you to all the members and their families that ‘rise to the occasion’. All photographs have been published with full consent.
