πŸŽ’βœοΈ The return to school can be a big transition for some children.

Heading back to school after the summer holidays can bring some big feelings for children. Changes in routine, new teachers, a busy, noisy classroom and the memories or feelings that school can bring can all feel overwhelming.

A few things that might help:

πŸ’› Talk about the changes – gently talk through what will be different, including teachers, classrooms, routines and expectations.

πŸ“… Re-establish routines early – gradually returning to school-time bedtimes, mornings and mealtimes can make the first week feel more manageable.

🏫 Pop by and visit school – if possible, arrange a visit before term starts. Seeing familiar spaces, even just the building and playground, can help reduce anxiety.

🌱 Expect an adjustment period – your child may need extra reassurance, patience and connection when they come home from school. Big feelings can sometimes appear once they are back in their safe space.

And remember, behaviour is communication. If a child is struggling, it may be a sign that they need connection and support rather than simply more boundaries or consequences.

If you're an adoptive parent preparing for the new school year, Adoption UK has some useful advice on supporting the transition back to school for adopted children.

πŸ‘‰ https://www.adoptionuk.org/blog/tips-for-the-transition-back-to-school

Starting a new school year isn't always easy – but with the right understanding and support, children can feel safe, supported and ready to take on what comes next. πŸ’›

While many children are getting ready for a new school year, some are still waiting for the stability and support of a permanent family. If you've ever considered adoption, we'd love to hear from you.

β€œI’m renting and don’t own my own home – can I adopt?”

You don’t need to be a homeowner to be an adoptive parent. You can be considered and are eligible for adoption as long as you have a stable rental agreement. It is expected for you to have a spare bedroom in order for your new child to have a space of their own.

If you’re considering adoption, get in touch with our friendly team for an informal chat to find out more about the support available throughout the whole adoption journey.
