We were pleased to welcome Ruben, a Year 12 student, to the museum for work experience this May. He wrote this article on the spring mechanism, which helped develop three objects on display: a door lock, a flintlock musket, and Cromwell's watch.

In the 1600s the spring mechanism emerged as a vital component in developing new technologies.
