Firefighters from Wisbech Community Fire & Rescue Station joined one of our community safety officers at a drop-in event to share info about sensory smoke alarms. Thank you Cambridgeshire Deaf Association for inviting us

🚒 We had some special visitors at our Wisbech Hearing Help drop-in last week.

Huge thanks to James Carney and the crew from Wisbech Fire Station, who came to talk to our clients about home fire safety and showed everyone how sensory smoke alarms work. They use flashing lights and a vibrating pad under your pillow, so you wake up even if you can't hear the alarm.

At the end of the rainbow you find a pot of gold, but under the rainbow today you find on-call firefighters committed to serving their local community 🌈🚒. The fire engines at on-call stations cannot be there in someone’s hour of need without enough people from the local area to come forward and train to be on-call firefighters. If you live within an approximate five minute travel time of your local on-call fire station and can offer some of your time to be ready to take action when called upon, find out more in the link in the comments ⬇️ By doing so you get to be part of a close knit team, learn life-saving skills, earn some extra money and can take advantage of other benefits that come as part of the package like free access to gym equipment.

MP Bridget Phillipson, Minister for Women and Equalities, visited Huntingdon Fire Station today, ahead of World Menopause Day on Sunday, to hear about the support we have put in place for colleagues going through menopause.

After being announced last month as winners of Henpicked’s Accredited Menopause Friendly Employer of the Year (Public Sector) award, Minister Phillipson asked to visit to see and hear what we had done to become an accredited menopause friendly workplace and the impact the measures had had on those going through menopause. Minister Phillipson heard from colleagues about their personal experiences and the positive impact the awareness raising and support had had for them, including how the work has paved the way for more open and supportive conversations.

Minister Phillipson then enjoyed a tour of the fire station, including seeing our latest new recruits in action at the training centre.

Did you know firefighters are trained in animal rescue? 🧑‍🚒

Crews from Cambridge put their skills to the test recently when they rescued a falcon that had been spooked and got stuck trapped in a tree.

Firefighters used one of the Service's turntable ladders to reach the falcon and returned the bird to its owner.
