Brampton Library, Cambridgeshire Library Services Brampton Community Managed Library is a founder member the Village Hub.

It is run entirely by volunteers and has strong relationships with the Cambridgeshire Library Services and Brampton Parish Council.

The Summer Reading Challenge will soon be over. Please be aware the last day for registering books and getting stickers is Saturday 5th September. Children need to have registered 6 books to be eligible for their certificates and medals.

The day for collecting certificates and medals will be Saturday 12th September.

We're all delighted that the Summer Reading Challenge 'Read to the Beat' is up and running now. It's great fun talking to our younger readers about the books they're reading. With a record number of children having joined the scheme this year, don't forget to register each weekly book read with us so that your child will get their medals and certificates in September. There are lots of ways for children to enjoy their books.

We were very sad to hear that Frank O'Reilly passed away yesterday afternoon. Frank has been a staunch supporter of our library for the past few years. Our volunteers will miss his infectious, Celtic sense of humour and his smiling, cheery greetings. His regular visits always involved long chats: seeking recommendations for new books and authors; putting the world to rights and his many pastimes, including cooking. Rest in peace, Frank.

HOT OFF THE PRESS...

We will be selling the new 3rd edition reprint of ‘Brampton – A Huntingdonshire Village’ on our Library stall at the Summer Fayre at a special ‘on the day’ price of £16 (in cash please) so be sure to come and see us at the Fayre.

This wonderful book was previously published over 25 years ago and we’re delighted now to be able to offer it to all Brampton residents who would like to know something about the history of our Village and possibly the house they actually live in!

You will learn:
• about the Pepys family and Lady Olivia Bernard Sparrow
• about the grisly murder of Martha Beeby
• tales from the wartime evacuees
• connections of long-standing families to current road names
• what non bakery item was weighed on the bakery scales

Do you know what the wartime Deliveroo equivalent for Brampton school children’s lunch was?
