Today marks the start of Volunteers’ Week, a time when people across the globe come together to celebrate and thank those who give their time to support others.

Here locally, we’re taking this opportunity to recognise and thank the incredible individuals who volunteer their time to help reinforce the Commissioner’s commitment to building trust and confidence in policing.

From Speedwatch to Independent Custody Visiting, and Animal Welfare schemes, our volunteers play a vital role in helping ensure policing is fair, transparent, and safe for everyone.

👏 We are truly grateful to each and every one of you for the difference you make in our communities.

An opportunity has arisen for a new Policy Officer role in my office.

If you are interested in working alongside policing, statutory partners and the voluntary sector to help prevent crime, reduce re-offending, and improve community safety locally, then this could be the job you are looking for.

The role focuses on issues relating to crime prevention (such as preventing business and retail crime, serious and organised crime, and fraud and cybercrime) and you will provide wider policy support across the broad ranging work of my office, including community safety, criminal justice and independent scrutiny.

Closing date: 28th June

Earlier this week, we met Hollie, our Victim and Witness Care Coordinator.

Hollie’s role enables her to provide the care and compassion people need at some of the most difficult times in their lives.

Her dedication to supporting individuals is reflected in the fact that many of those people have requested to work with her again, which she finds incredibly rewarding, as well as not being restricted with time constraints, victims or witnesses do not feel like they have a timeline in which to receive support.

One case that stood out to Hollie involved supporting someone who was very distressed after receiving a letter they didn’t understand. Hollie carefully explained the contents, provided reassurance, and helped put special measures in place to reduce future distress and support them in coping with the impact of crime.

With 17 years of experience in the criminal justice system, Adam describes this role as the most rewarding and empowering, helping to bring a human touch to his work and ensuring victims never feel dehumanised by their experience of crime.

Experiencing crime affects everyone differently. Our Care Coordinators are here to reduce that impact, offering support to help people recover and move forward.

This week, we’re highlighting locally funded services offering emotional, practical and advocacy support to victims and witnesses of crime across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

Behind every phone call and conversation is a real person who lives locally and is dedicated to helping others through some of the most difficult times in their lives.

Throughout the week, we’ll be highlighting the faces behind these services, the local people working tirelessly to ensure residents receive the care, guidance and support they need, when they need it most.

👥 CPSL Mind are helping local people on their journey to recovery from a wide range of mental health challenges. They also campaign to tackle the stigma and discrimination faced by so many people experiencing poor mental health.

🤝 Thanks to local funding from the Police and Crime Commissioner, this service supports residents across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough who have been impacted by crime.

Between April 2025 and March 2026, this funding enabled Mind to actively support 147 people in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

One local resident said:
💬 “Just having a calm voice on the end of the phone really helps, especially when you can’t always tell family and friends how you’re feeling.”
