Fenland District Council pulled it out of the bag again with another fabulous Golden Age Fair, this time in Whittlesey.

Joined by the Victim and Witness Hub, the OPCC attended and spoke with elderly residents about safety concerns and what to do if they have been impacted by crime as a victim or witness.

Despite the warm weather there was a fantastic turn out and helpful advice given to residents aged over 65.

Domestic abuse specialists will be deployed to 12 new 999 control rooms, under the second phase of ‘Raneem’s Law' which includes Cambridgeshire Constabulary.

Raneem’s Law was introduced following the tragic deaths of Raneem Oudeh and her mother, Khaola Saleem, after repeated reports of domestic abuse were missed.

The new approach places domestic abuse specialists in 999 control rooms to help identify high-risk cases, improve safeguarding, and connect victims with support sooner.

England are off to a winning start, but if you're celebrating this world cup, make sure you've got a safe way home.

Last year, 38 people were killed or seriously injured in Cambridgeshire collisions involving drink or drugs. Each one was entirely preventable.

🍻 The Vision Zero Partnership, chaired by the Commissioner, is working with local venues to promote safe and sensible celebrations throughout the tournament, thanks to funding from the OPCC.

📱 If you suspect someone is drink or drug driving, report it anonymously on 0800 032 0845.

🚨 If there's an immediate danger to life, always call 999.

Do your bit to keep Cambridgeshire's roads safe and clear of drink/drug drivers.

Statement from Police and Crime Commissioner Darryl Preston following today's incident at Johnson's Zoo in Old Hurst.

“My thoughts go out to the family of the little boy involved in this truly horrific incident. I can only begin to imagine the trauma those involved are going through.

“While I have been fully briefed by the Chief Constable (Simon Megicks, Cambridgeshire Constabulary), I would like to remind everyone that this is an ongoing operational issue and therefore I am not able to comment any further at this stage.”

Police and Crime Commissioner, Darryl Preston welcomed Mayor Paul Bristow at Cambridgeshire Constabulary headquarters in Huntingdon to see the results of a £700k grant to provide solar canopies in the staff car park.

The Constabulary is now using more than 90% of the energy generated on-site, significantly reducing bills and freeing up resources to reinvest into frontline policing priorities.

This will not only create a cleaner environment for future generations but also ultimately save taxpayers money.

⭐️ SOLAR CAR PARK CANOPY SCHEME ⭐️

Together with Darryl Preston, our Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Police and Crime Commissioner - we successfully bid for £700k to install a solar car park canopy scheme at the Police HQ ☀️

Why is this important? Well it saves the police money on energy costs which they can spend on bobbies on the beat 👮‍♀️

It also shows where solar panels should be! On roofs of buildings and not all over the countryside 🌳

The Police and Crime Commissioner joined Chief Constable Simon Megicks, Cadet Leader Julie Clark and police cadets at the closing ceremony of the Knife Angel in Ely.

Standing an impressive 27 feet tall and created from more than 100,000 surrendered and confiscated knives and blades, the Knife Angel is a powerful national monument against violence and aggression. During its four-week stay on Palace Green, opposite Ely Cathedral, it has served as a stark reminder of the devastating impact knife crime can have on individuals, families and communities.

The sculpture has inspired important conversations across the county, welcoming visits from more than 300 schools and thousands of people who have travelled from the UK and beyond to see this remarkable masterpiece.

Its impact has been tangible. More than 50 knives have been surrendered in Ely alone.

The project has also raised almost £10,000 in partnership with for the supporting the lifesaving work they carry out across our region.

As the Knife Angel leaves Cambridgeshire, its message remains: every life matters, every conversation counts, and together we can continue working towards a future free from knife crime and violence.

As Chair of the Cambridgeshire Criminal Justice Board, Police and Crime Commissioner, Darryl Preston today welcomes the government's announcement that Cambridge Crown Court has been selected to be one of the next pilots for Intensive Supervision Courts (ISCs).

By focusing on the root causes of offending, the scheme provides a more constructive alternative to punishment alone.

ISCs are a way of giving people who receive a community-based sentence a means of robust management between the Probation Service and the courts.

In his Police and Crime Plan, the Commissioner is clear about the need for early intervention and prevention, and has long said that prevention is better than cure.

Ending the revolving door of repeat offending

Earlier this week, our CEO and Cadet Leader, Julie Clark, joined influencer Quinton Green from Knife Crime Victim Support to speak with students across East Cambridgeshire about the realities of knife crime.

With the Knife Angel currently standing in Ely, it provided a powerful opportunity to have honest and meaningful conversations about the choices young people face and the devastating consequences that can follow when a knife is carried.

Students were encouraged to think beyond the immediate impact and consider the ripple effect knife crime has on victims, families, friends, perpetrators, and entire communities. One decision can change countless lives forever.

These discussions are about more than raising awareness they are about empowering young people with the knowledge, confidence, and understanding to make positive choices and recognise the risks and consequences of crime.

By investing in early intervention and prevention, we can help build safer communities and brighter futures for the next generation.

A new opportunity has opened up for a Policy Officer role within the OPCC.

This is an excellent chance to work alongside policing, statutory partners, and the voluntary sector to help prevent crime, reduce re-offending, and improve community safety across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

The role will primarily focus on key crime prevention areas, such as business and retail crime, serious and organised crime, and fraud and cybercrime. It also offers the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of policy areas, including community safety, criminal justice, and independent scrutiny.

Today, we’re shining a light on Wendy, who gives her time to support our Community Scrutiny Panel.

Wendy is passionate about giving back to her community and helping to “myth bust” around policing, believing it is vital to ensure that policing is safe, fair and accessible for everyone.

Through the scrutiny panel, Wendy and other volunteers bring together a range of voices and perspectives. While opinions may differ, the panel works collaboratively to reach a shared view.
