Last weekend Two firefighters from Huntly Fire Station had the privilege of travelling to Essex to take part in the UKRO festival of Rescue 2026, joining colleagues from Ayr and Stranraer to form a team and represent Scotland.
The challenge provided an excellent opportunity to test there skills, gain valuable experience and receive constructive feedback in vehicle extrication and trauma care, all while working alongside colleagues from across the UK fire and rescue service.
We also took away some fantastic learning from the educational workshops, including:
CNG / LNG vehicle safety, HGV rescue, Electric truck technology, Electric vehicle rescue and a very interesting insight into fully autonomous vehicles from WAYMO.
Being part of these events is a real privilege. We learn so much from watching other teams, sharing experiences and working together to improve our knowledge and skills.
Events like these are invaluable in helping us develop and improve the skills needed to make a difference when it matters most.

This weekend, one of our own firefighters from Huntly Fire Station, Mark Allan, will be taking on an incredibly special and challenging event in the USA.

Mark is part of a team of 240 firefighters from the UK & Ireland, travelling to Atlanta, Georgia, to take part in the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund Memorial Stair Climb, marking the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

Mark will climb 110 floors in full firefighting kit, representing the height of the World Trade Center towers.

For Mark, this is much more than a physical challenge. It is an opportunity to remember the fallen, honour their sacrifice and stand alongside his international firefighting family.

The group of firefighters are also raising funds for three fantastic charities:

🚒 The Fire Fighters Charity
🇺🇸 The Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund
💙 Blue Light Card Foundation

If you would like to support Mark and these three charities, donations can be made via
