🚒 📟Not just fires!

While crews were attending Hurst Festival’s Super Sunday, they were called away to assist someone in need.

The crew used our 135 ladder to gain access to an upper-floor window and assist those inside.

Fire & Rescue crews respond to a wide range of incidents, often using specialist equipment and skills to help people in need.

Our 13.5m ladder is one example of this specialist equipment. Did you know that it weighs 100kg and requires 4 firefighters to operate!

A busy Sunday for the crew — and a great example of why it’s not just fires! 👨‍🚒🚒

🚒 Drill night – RTC training

This week our crew spent drill night working through road traffic collision (RTC) training), practising the skills and techniques needed when dealing with vehicles involved in a serious collision.

With autumn now on the way, it’s a good time to remind everyone that the roads can become more challenging, particularly around Hurstpierpoint and the surrounding rural roads.

🌅 Low sun can make it difficult to see hazards and other road users.

🌧️ Rain and surface water can make roads slippery, with leaves, mud and debris also reducing grip.

🌙 As the evenings get darker, visibility becomes more of a challenge.

🚗 Give yourself a little more time, leave plenty of space and adjust your speed to the conditions.

And if you do come across a collision, please slow down and give emergency services plenty of room to work. We know it’s tempting to have a look, but keeping everyone safe at the scene makes a big difference.

Our regular drill nights mean we can keep practising these skills so we’re ready when the call comes in.

A huge thank you to The Triangle Leisure Centre who have provided our Firefighters at Hurstpierpoint Fire Station access to their gym and health suite.

The facilities will allow crews to maintain and improve operational fitness. A very big thank you to all the Placemaker staff for their support!

🌧️ Very Wet Weather – Flooding Advice 🌧️

With the current heavy rain, some areas are experiencing surface water and localised flooding. Please take extra care when travelling and around drains, ditches and watercourses.

If you are at immediate risk or in danger:

Sandbags:
Residents are normally responsible for protecting their own property. Sandbags are often available from local builders merchants but it is worth telephoning in advance to check stock and avoid unnecessary journeys.

General tips:
• Avoid driving through flood water
• Do not lift manhole covers
• Keep drains and gutters clear if safe to do so
• Move valuables upstairs if flooding is likely

We will share updates if any local issues are reported. Please stay safe and look out for neighbours who may need help.
