I wanted to update residents who have contacted me with their concerns.
As this is a recycling centre, the licence is approved by Derbyshire County Council, and any objections must be sent directly to DCC.
As an Erewash Councillor, I unfortunately have no powers over the matter.
I will add a template letter in the comments for any residents who wish to use it.
I hope this is helpful.
🚛 Plans have been submitted which could allow around 700 extra lorry journeys a week at Johnsons Recycling Centre on Crompton Road in Ilkeston.
The application, lodged with Derbyshire County Council, seeks permission to vary a condition attached to the site’s existing planning approval.
If approved, permitted HGV movements would increase from:
• 272 two-way movements per weekday to 400
• 132 weekend movements to 194
The site processes Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA), aggregates and construction waste, and has operated from the Quarry Hill Industrial Estate area for several years.
Planning documents say the increase is needed to improve operational efficiency and support growing demand for recycling and aggregate processing.
A transport assessment submitted with the application says the additional traffic would not have a “severe” impact on the surrounding highway network, and notes there have been no recorded highway complaints linked to the site since operations began in 2017.
The application will now be considered by Derbyshire County Council and Erewash Borough Council.
What do you think - reasonable expansion of an established industrial site, or too much extra HGV traffic for the area?
