☀️ Get ready for even more fun in the sun! ☀️

Erewash Museum will be opening the Beach from Wednesday 27 May this year, giving everyone more time to enjoy Ilkeston's mini seaside. ⛱️

That’s not all – there will be plenty of exciting half-term entertainment this week too.

Erewash Museum is also looking for volunteers to help with serving a new beach hut where visitors will be able to get refreshments, ice-creams and children's lunch boxes without having to miss any of the action.

🌿 Nature in action at Pewit Coronation Meadows! 🌿

Our fantastic volunteer Erewash Tree Wardens have been hard at work, helping keep the nature reserve thriving 🌳

Here’s what they’ve been up to:
🌴 Carefully re-tying young trees to support their growth
🌳 Clearing away dead trees and old stakes, making space for autumn replanting
🍃 Coppicing trees to encourage fresh, healthy regrowth

Thanks to their dedication, the meadows are in great shape for the seasons ahead 💚
👏 Mission accomplished – amazing work, team!

The weight of 33 double-decker buses… that’s how much food waste you’ve recycled in just over a month! ♻️

Thanks to Erewash residents getting on board with the new food waste bins, an incredible 257 tonnes of scraps have already been collected.

From veg peelings to plate leftovers, your food waste is being transformed into biofuel and fertiliser – helping the environment and reducing landfill 💚

👏 It’s fantastic to see so many people embracing the new weekly collections and making a real difference.

Keep it up, Erewash! ✨

Erewash residents are being urged to beware of scorching sunshine – as the borough got its first hot weather warning of the year from the UK Health Security Agency.

The amber alert came amid forecasts that “unseasonable” end of May temperatures over the bank holiday weekend could top 30°C – potentially setting a record.

An initial yellow alert was upgraded from 2pm on Friday. According to the UKHSA it signals “significant likely impacts across health and social services”.

Warm air sweeping in from Spain and France means the warning is in effect until Wednesday 27 May.
