Ilkley Town Council has agreed funding of £3,415.74 for Bradford Council to continue its garden maintenance programme in Mill Ghyll for the coming year.

The decision means that the ongoing care and upkeep of this valued green space can continue, helping to ensure that Mill Ghyll remains an attractive and welcoming place for residents, visitors and the wider community.

Mill Ghyll is an important part of Ilkley’s public realm, providing a peaceful green route close to the town centre. The continued maintenance programme will support the appearance, accessibility and enjoyment of the area throughout the year.

A spokesperson for Ilkley Town Council said, “Mill Ghyll is much loved by the community, and the Council is pleased to support the continuation of the garden maintenance programme for the coming year. This funding will help protect and enhance an important local space for everyone who uses it.”

Ilkley Town Council will continue to work with Bradford Council and local partners to support the maintenance and improvement of public spaces across the town.

With the warm and dry weather continuing during this week, people are reminded to take extra care:

• Barbeques and fires of any kind are not allowed on Ilkley Moor. This is covered by a Public Space Protection Order and you can be fined up to £2,500 and/or receive a prison sentence. Fires and barbeques are also not permitted in parks and greenspaces. Please report the use of barbeques and any fires on moorland by calling 999 – ask for Fire and Rescue.

• Although it may be tempting to cool off in open water, please stay safe. If you see someone in trouble remember to phone 999 and ask for the Fire Service. Tell the person in trouble to stay calm, to tilt their head back, and float on their back. Throw any available rescue equipment (a life ring or anything that floats) so that it lands near them (not on them) until help arrives.
