🌞 Just one week to go until the Ingatestone Big Lunch! 🌞

Next Sunday, 14 June, we’ll be gathering on the Fairfield from 12pm–3pm - and the forecast is looking rather promising… but just in case, let’s all do our bit and collectively summon some sunshine and warmth for the occasion☀️

Bring your picnic, blankets, chairs, games, snacks… and whatever else you fancy! and come and enjoy a few hours outdoors with the village. Ingatestone CricketClub bar will be open, and we’re delighted to be welcoming back HandMade Theatre, who’ll be performing their brand-new puppet show The Butterfly House - fresh from a successful premiere last week! (We loved their puppet petting zoo last year 🐖🪿🐐)

No tickets, no booking, no fuss - just turn up between midday and 3pm and enjoy some sunshine and good company in our lovely village. See you there 💛

Please find below an update from National Highways regarding the Fryerning Lane bridge:

“Dear Customer

I’m writing to update you on Fryerning Lane bridge and the traffic lights currently in place.

Thank you for your patience while we completed essential repairs. We know there has been disruption, and we understand how frustrating this can be.

Why we repaired the bridge
The bridge was damaged in a road traffic incident in 2018. The damages included the north edge beam and several intermediate beams over the A12 southbound carriageway. We’ve now completed the repair works to make the structure safe again. As part of this work, a detailed assessment of the bridge was required. This determined that, while the bridge is safe to use, the edge beams were not designed for today’s traffic levels.

Why traffic lights are in place
The assessment identified that the bridge edge beams are limited to loading capacities and require protection measures to prevent accidental loading. Due to this limitation, we have installed temporary protective barriers close to both verges which resulted in narrowing of the available road width. The narrow carriageway width meant that the bridge cannot safely carry two-way traffic at the same time. To manage this, we have installed two-way traffic lights. These control how traffic uses the bridge and help keep everyone safe. We know this is causing delays, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience.

Why we didn’t restore full capacity at the same time
Our priority was to repair the damaged beams to prevent additional deterioration of the bridge. Bringing the bridge up to modern standards would require more extensive work. This needs further design, planning and coordination before it can be carried out.

What we’re doing next
We are already working at pace to find a long-term solution. We’re working closely with the local authority to identify an option that will remove the current restrictions and improve journeys for everyone who uses this route. We will share more information with you as soon as we have confirmed the next steps.

Thank you
Thank you again for your patience and understanding while we work to resolve this.
