This weeks Monday evening training session was carried out off station with practical training on our SWAH (Safe working at height) equipment as well as practical training on our wildfire unit.

Since Monday evening crews at Invergordon have mobilised to a vehicle fire , a fire alarm activation and a further 3 mobilisations to assist police Scotland at various incidents 📟 🚒

If you’re in the Alness area, you may have noticed the large black cloud of smoke today.

Incidents like this highlight one of the biggest hazards in our line of work — lithium batteries.

These batteries are commonly found in everyday items like phones, vapes, and small electrical equipment. If damaged or disposed of incorrectly, they can cause serious fires and pose a real risk to people, property, and waste management teams, especially during collection and processing.

At ILM Highland, we see these dangers first-hand.
That’s why it’s so important to separate lithium batteries from small appliances when visiting Household Waste Recycling Centres.

Please ensure batteries are recycled safely at ILM Alness or your local Highland Council recycling centre.

On this occasion, we’d also like to extend our sincere thanks to the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service for their swift response.

Our crew will be taking part in a planned exercise at the Alness Youth Centre on the High Street in Alness this evening from around 1900 please do not be alarmed if you see a heightened fire service presence including vehicles and staff in the area this evening. Thanks to all who came along to our car wash today! We will let you all know the grand total tomorrow! Not only did we have our car wash but we also had a busy day operationally 🚒

📟 - at 1330 S30S6 & S30G6 (Wildfire unit) mobilised to assist colleagues with an incident near to Nairn

📟 - at 1700 S30P7 mobilised to Standby in Inverness and whilst at standby were mobilised to an incident within the city then returning to provide standby cover returning to home station around 2100

📟 - at 2016 S30P6 mobilised to a fire in the open in a neighbouring town
