Have you ever noticed these wee features on the fence at Abertarff House?

While they are beautiful decorations for the fence, they are also symbols representing the various types of sites the NTS has the privilege to care for. We're excited to welcome you at Abertarff, and we encourage you to go out and explore other NTS locations, from islands, battlefields, and castles - they're all waiting to be explored!

What was the last NTS site you visited?

✨Inverness Through the Years✨

Ness Bridge has seen so much history and so many architectural designs!

Take a look at the evolution of the Ness Bridge from the 1840s all the way through 1961. The first image features a sketch of the bridge created in the 1840s, only a few short years before the Ness Suspension Bridge opened in 1855. The suspension bridge stood for just over 100 years, but was demolished in the 1950s to make way for the current bridge, which could handle the size and volume of cars of the expanding Inverness.

Until the 1940s, the speed limit was 10mph, and a traffic warden with a red flag would control traffic on the suspension bridge, making sure there were never too many cars on the bridge at once. The warden was removed at the onset of WWII, and the bridge was officially closed in 1959.

Do you miss any of the historic features of past bridges?

Today Culloden Battlefield NTS is welcoming a surprise Meet the Maker, Anke Rainbow!✨

Anke is at Culloden from 10am-3pm to talk about her lovely jewellery!

Anke is the creator of Textures of Scotland™, a unique jewellery collection dedicated to capturing the tactile soul of Scotland’s ancient landscape. Using a proprietary Direct-from-Stone process, she takes physical impressions from the weathered walls of historic landmarks and heritage sites—including Culloden Battlefield itself—to create pieces that serve as a literal "fingerprint" of the past.

Every piece in her Textures of Scotland™ collection is handcrafted in her Highland studio, ensuring that each relic is as enduring as the history it represents. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet Anke, learn about her fascination with the "silent history" of the stones, and discover the meticulous craftsmanship required to translate ancient textures into heirloom-quality keepsakes.

Don't miss your chance to meet Anke and see her making process!
