Are you aware of the current guidance on screen time for little onesโ“Check out this helpful post from Aberdeenshire Health Visitors for more info ๐Ÿ‘€
โœ… By managing little onesโ€™ screen time youโ€™ll be helping to ensure they are not missing out on opportunities for real life interactions and play ๐Ÿ’ฌ๐Ÿ™‚

๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿง  Screen Time and Little Ones

In today's world, screens are everywhere, but when it comes to young children's development, less is often more. Early childhood is a crucial time for brain development, language learning, social skills and emotional growth, and children learn best through real-life experiences, play and interaction with the people around them.

Current guidance recommends:

๐Ÿ‘ถ 0โ€“18 months: No screen time (except video calls with family and loved ones)
๐Ÿ‘ถ 18โ€“24 months: Keep screen time to a minimum, aiming for no more than 30 minutes a day, and always watch together
๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿ‘ง 2โ€“5 years: Aim for no more than 1 hour a day of high-quality content, with an adult present whenever possible

Too much screen time can affect sleep, attention, learning and social development. Instead, try to prioritise activities that help your child's brain grow:

๐Ÿ“š Reading books
๐ŸŽต Singing songs and nursery rhymes
๐Ÿšถ Outdoor play and physical activity
๐Ÿงฉ Puzzles, toys and imaginative play
๐Ÿ’› Talking, playing and spending time together

Remember, you don't need expensive toys or activities. Your time, attention and interaction are some of the most powerful tools for supporting your child's development.

Creating healthy screen habits from an early age. ๐Ÿ“ฑโžก๏ธ ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŒณ

โœ… Use pictures, drawings or symbols to help them understand ๐Ÿ’ญ You can simply add drawings to your own paper calendar or sticky notes, or save and print these images ๐Ÿ“† ๐Ÿ–จ
