Dear parishioners
I am afraid the public conveniences on Bristol Hill, Shotley Gate, have been vandalised again.

This time, there was significant damage to the door and door frame, so the door cannot be closed/locked.

We will organise the repairs as soon as possible, but there may come a time when consideration is given as to whether this much valued local facility can be retained.

If you witnessed anything pertaining to this incident, please contact the parish council in confidence. This matter will be reported to Suffolk Police as we have some information already.

Exciting news for Kingsland Play Area!

Shotley Parish Council is delighted to confirm that the order for the new play equipment at Kingsland Play Area has now been placed.

The scheme is being fully commissioned by the Shotley Parish Council so that we can get the new equipment installed as quickly as possible for local families and visitors to enjoy.

We chose the parish-wide survey-informed design with the location in mind. As the play area sits close to nearby homes, the materials and layout have been selected to be sympathetic to the surrounding area, while still providing a fun, engaging and inclusive space for children.

The new equipment includes a range of play features suitable for different ages and abilities, with installation currently scheduled to take place over the next 2–3 months.

We are really excited to see this project moving forward and look forward to sharing further updates as the installation date approaches.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the project. We can’t wait to see the new play area take shape!

And there’s more to come…

Work is already underway to deliver the Lloyd Road Play Area too.

While Kingsland has been carefully designed to sit sympathetically within a residential setting close to nearby homes, Lloyd Road offers a different opportunity. Because of its location and larger size, the Council will be able to consider a wider range of materials, styles and play features, creating a different but equally exciting space for local children and families.

The Parish Council is committed to improving both play areas, and we look forward to sharing more details on the Lloyd Road proposals as the project develops.

Dear Parishioners

This is the new website - jointly created by Suffolk’s county, district and borough councils - to provide information and updates about the Local Government Reorganisation in Suffolk.

Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) is the biggest change to local government in over 50 years. From April 2028 the county, district and borough councils in Suffolk will be replaced by 3 new unitary councils. Find out more about LGR and what it means for you.

Dear Parishioners
Following a significant fire at the contractor’s facility, the collection service for small electrical items has been severely impacted.

Despite extensive efforts, BDC has been unable to secure an alternative contractor to maintain the service in the interim.

To prevent the containers from becoming unmanageable and to maintain safe site conditions, all small electrical item containers across the district will be temporarily removed.

BDC is actively progressing the procurement of a new contractor and intends to restore the service as soon as operational arrangements are in place.

Please do not leave any electrical items at the Village Hall.

Photos show the damage to the Wiser Recycling Centre in Thetford following a fire last night.

Shotley Parish Council is aware of vandalism to the fencing at the Heritage Park, Shotley Gate. This is extremely disappointing and results in an unnecessary cost to the local taxpayers.

We are arranging for repairs to be carried out as soon as possible.

If you saw anything or have any information that could assist, please contact the Parish Council confidentially so that the matter can be reported to the police.

We would appreciate the community’s help in identifying those responsible.

Many thanks.

Dear Parishioners

We are delighted to inform you that at last night’s Council meeting, Councillors unanimously approved one of the formal tenders for the new Kingsland play equipment.

We are applying for CIL funding, so we have to wait until that funding is confirmed before placing the order, but once we do that, the lead time is 8/9 weeks.

The procurement process is currently being finalised, and once that is done, we will publish the design.

Thank you for your patience so far. It has been a long but very worthwhile project that we can’t wait to deliver to the parish.
