Dear Parishioners

Concerns have been raised by residents about the works that started on September 1st at the bottom of Bristol Hill.

It appears that two electric charging points and bollards have been installed. However, most of the parking bays have been blocked for the time being.

Unfortunately, the Parish Council was not advised that these works were planned, and therefore we were not able to give our Parishioners any notice.

We are making enquiries with SCC to ascertain how these works have come about.

🎉🛝 Exciting news for Kingsland Play Area! 🌳🎉

We’re delighted to let residents know that work on the new Kingsland Play Area is due to begin next week! 🚧👷

Installation is scheduled to start on Thursday 13 August, with completion expected by Friday 4 September. 📅

The new play area has been fully commissioned by Shotley Parish Council and represents a significant investment in improved facilities for local children and families. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🌳🛝

The existing play equipment will remain in place for as long as possible, so children can continue to use it while preparations and installation of the new equipment get underway. 😊

As work progresses, the necessary areas will be securely fenced off to keep everyone safe. 🚧⚠️

♻️ We are also delighted that some of the existing equipment and fencing may be given a new life.

We are hopeful that local organisations will be able to recycle and repurpose some of the items being removed rather than them simply going to waste. 🔄🌱

Shotley Parish Council would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding while the work takes place. 🙏

We will keep everyone updated as the installation progresses – and we can’t wait to see the new play area completed and being enjoyed by children and families! 🎉🛝🌳☀️

🏡 We have also had our first meeting with our Ward Councillors regarding the Capital CIL funding application to for the redevelopment of Lloyd Road Play Area, and we’re pleased to say that the discussion was very positive.

The application is seeking support towards a much larger improvement of the Lloyd Road site, with the aim of creating a modern, inclusive and exciting play area for a wider range of ages and abilities. 🛝🌳

We will keep residents updated as the application progresses. 🤞

Thank you to High Cutz Tree and Garden Services & Daniel Meacock for a brilliant job clearing the tree this morning, and at short notice.

We will keep an eye on the remaining section and hopefully save it with good maintenance.

Parishioners, please help yourselves to the logs and mulch left on site.

We have been made aware that part of the large tree at the start of the foreshore footpath in Shotley Gate has collapsed.

We have reported it but please bear with us whilst works are being organised.

A big thank you to Mark Ratcliffe for cutting back the over growth between the primary school and Harvey Terrace, commissioned by the Parish Council. What a difference! 😊

Dear Parishioners

We are aware that the footpath between Shotley Primary School and Harvey Terrace has become extremely overgrown.

This has been reported to Suffolk County Council Rights of Way, as maintenance of the footpath is their responsibility. However, as this route has not been maintained regularly over the years, the Parish Council has taken the decision to once again commission a local contractor to cut back the overgrowth and make the path passable.

This footpath forms part of the safe route to school and is the only footway between these two points. For that reason, the Parish Council feels it is important that the work is carried out as soon as possible, rather than waiting for further delays.

We hope this will improve access and safety for children, families and other pedestrians using the route.

Heritage Park and Foreshore Footpath – Anti-Social Behaviour

The Parish Council is aware of groups of teenagers causing damage in and around the Heritage Park and the foreshore footpath, including digging into the cliff area and lighting fires.

This land is private land owned by the Parish Council for the benefit and enjoyment of the whole community. Damage to the land, deliberate digging that worsens cliff erosion, and the lighting of fires are not acceptable. Such behaviour may constitute a criminal offence and will be reported to Suffolk Police.

The current high temperatures mean that any fire in this area could spread quickly and pose a serious risk to nearby woodland, wildlife, homes, and public safety.

We ask parishioners to remain vigilant, particularly during the late afternoon and evening. If you witness anyone causing damage or starting fires, please:

- Do not put yourself at risk or confront those involved.
- Take photographs or video only if it is safe to do so.
- Report incidents to Suffolk Police via 101 or the online reporting service.
If there is an immediate fire risk or a fire has been started, call 999.

The Parish Council will be placing new signage in the area. Anyone found causing damage, lighting fires, or otherwise misusing the land may be reported to Suffolk Police, and the Parish Council reserves the right to take further appropriate action.

Dear parishioners
I am afraid the public conveniences on Bristol Hill, Shotley Gate, have been vandalised again.

This time, there was significant damage to the door and door frame, so the door cannot be closed/locked.

We will organise the repairs as soon as possible, but there may come a time when consideration is given as to whether this much valued local facility can be retained.

If you witnessed anything pertaining to this incident, please contact the parish council in confidence. This matter will be reported to Suffolk Police as we have some information already.

Exciting news for Kingsland Play Area!

Shotley Parish Council is delighted to confirm that the order for the new play equipment at Kingsland Play Area has now been placed.

The scheme is being fully commissioned by the Shotley Parish Council so that we can get the new equipment installed as quickly as possible for local families and visitors to enjoy.

We chose the parish-wide survey-informed design with the location in mind. As the play area sits close to nearby homes, the materials and layout have been selected to be sympathetic to the surrounding area, while still providing a fun, engaging and inclusive space for children.

The new equipment includes a range of play features suitable for different ages and abilities, with installation currently scheduled to take place over the next 2–3 months.

We are really excited to see this project moving forward and look forward to sharing further updates as the installation date approaches.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the project. We can’t wait to see the new play area take shape!

And there’s more to come…

Work is already underway to deliver the Lloyd Road Play Area too.

While Kingsland has been carefully designed to sit sympathetically within a residential setting close to nearby homes, Lloyd Road offers a different opportunity. Because of its location and larger size, the Council will be able to consider a wider range of materials, styles and play features, creating a different but equally exciting space for local children and families.

The Parish Council is committed to improving both play areas, and we look forward to sharing more details on the Lloyd Road proposals as the project develops.
