Thursday 3 September, removal will start of the wooden trim trail at Oak Meadow Play Area. The installation of the new kit commences on Monday 14th September. We hope to keep the play area open during these works. Thank you to SPARK (Sport & Recreation Kesgrave) for their 50% contribution to the exciting new kit.

Here are the key public outcomes from the Kesgrave Town Council Planning and Development Committee meeting held on Monday, 10th August.

Decisions on Local Planning Applications

The committee reviewed several local planning proposals and made the following recommendations:

* Brightwell Lakes Cycleways: Councillors voted unanimously to support Martlesham Parish Council's objection to a proposal for raised tables on cycleways within the development. Concerns were raised about potential safety conflicts between cyclists and drivers, as well as the risk of impeding water drainage.
* Other Applications: No objections were raised regarding maintenance work on protected trees at 57 Ferguson Way or for a proposed extension at 33 Edmonton Road.

Advocating for Kesgrave's Character

Following a recent decision by East Suffolk Council (ESC) to approve a retrospective application for a prominent fence on Main Road, the committee expressed its strong disappointment. The Town Council had previously objected to the fence, considering it an "eyesore" and completely out of keeping with the local street scene. A formal letter will be sent to ESC outlining the council's view that the decision sets a damaging precedent for the area.

Championing Localism

The committee discussed a national survey on neighbourhood planning. Councillors expressed concern over the government's perceived watering down of the Localism Act and withdrawal of funding for neighbourhood plans. It was agreed that a letter would be sent to the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) to voice this disappointment on behalf of the town.

Community Success Story

On a positive note, a wonderful anecdote was shared about the new pump track. A young person using the facility said they had been there every day of the school holidays, whereas last year they would have been at home on their PlayStation. This highlights the project's success in getting young people active outdoors.

NOTICE OF TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE ON BELL LANE

Kesgrave Town Council wishes to inform residents of essential upgrade works being carried out by Anglian Water to improve our local water infrastructure.💧

Anglian Water will be upgrading assets on a mains water main located in the field adjacent to Bell Lane, opposite the secondary entrance to Foxhall Stadium, at the south end of Bell Lane.

📅 Although works will carried out from Monday 27th July to Monday 3rd August 2026, the closure on Bell Lane will ONLY be closed on two specific days: Monday 27th July 2026 (for site setup) and Monday 3rd August 2026 (for site de-mobilisation).

Important Note: On these two dates, the road will be closed at the start of the day and re-opened at the end of the day. Bell Lane will be fully open during the days in between.

🚗 Diversion Route & Safety
The actual work does not involve excavating the carriageway, but closures are needed to safely deliver and collect materials. During closures, a diversion route will be in place via Main Road, Kesgrave (A1214) > Dobbs Lane, Kesgrave (C351) > Foxhall Road, Kesgrave (C332) and vice versa. Cones, barriers, and lamps will span the entire width of the road at all closure gates to ensure the safety of the work teams.
