It was a privilege to attend the University of Suffolk’s “From Local to Global” supporters’ event yesterday evening and to hear first hand about the extraordinary work taking place across our county’s university.
The University of Suffolk continues to go from strength to strength, not only as a cornerstone institution for Ipswich and Suffolk, but as a university with growing national and international recognition. From world leading research and innovation, to life changing opportunities for students from all backgrounds, the university is making a profound contribution to our region and far beyond.
It is particularly encouraging to see the University recently named University of the Year at the 2025 Whatuni.com Student Choice Awards, alongside national recognition for teaching quality and student support, and many more awards. These honours reflect the dedication of academic staff, support staff, researcher fellows and students alike, and demonstrate the strength of the university’s vision and leadership.
The breadth of research taking place is equally impressive, from internationally recognised work in literature and culture, to pioneering environmental and conservation projects in the Amazon rainforest, helping shape global conversations around sustainability and biodiversity.
As someone who cares deeply about the future of Ipswich and Suffolk, I am proud to support the University of Suffolk and the transformative role it plays in education, research, economic growth and civic life. Strong universities build strong communities, and Suffolk is fortunate to have an institution with such ambition, purpose and impact at its heart.
My sincere thanks to Vice Chancellor Jenny Higham, Emma Bond, Sarah Westwood, Sam Chenery Morris, Jane Skelt, Jason Webbsmall-Eghan and the entire team for hosting such an inspiring and thoughtful evening.
