Suffolk Trading Standards We provide consumer advice through a regional Trading Standards helpline Citizens Advice consumer service on 0808 223 1133.

Historically, we were known as Suffolk Weights and Measures Department because our primary function was to maintain the integrity of commercial weighing and measuring by routine testing of equipment and goods. We now deal with more diverse issues under a wide variety of Acts, Orders and Codes of Practice, as set out by central government, the Food Standards Agency and the Office of Fair Trading. We advise on and enforce laws that govern the way we buy, sell, rent and hire goods and services. These laws cover a wide area, which includes:

- product labelling
- product safety
- food labelling
- weights and measures
- under-age sales
- animal welfare

Our duties include:

- visiting local traders for routine checks or to investigate complaints
- taking samples of goods for testing
- checking that weighing scales and measures are accurate
- checking that food labelling is correct and advertising is not misleading
- advising consumers and businesses about the law
- investigating suspected offences, which could include undercover or surveillance work
- preparing evidence and prosecuting cases in court

💉👄 It is a criminal offence to administer botulinum toxin (Botox) or a filler by injection for a cosmetic purpose, to anyone under 18 years, even if they have the permission of someone over 18.

☎️ It is also an offence to arrange or book an appointment for these treatments, for anyone under the age of 18.

The purpose of the law, Botulinum Toxin and Cosmetic Fillers (Children) Act 2021, is to protect young people against the dangers associated with Botox and cosmetic fillers.

From today fireworks can be sold by registered retailers. Our Trading Standards officers are visiting businesses licensed to store and sell fireworks in the run up to Diwali and Guy Fawkes Night.

They will conduct safety inspections, check storage arrangements, remind them about responsible selling and check fire safety measures.

Retailers must do a risk assessment. This means thinking about what might cause harm to people and deciding whether you are taking reasonable steps to prevent that harm.

The main questions you need to ask yourself about how fireworks being stored and sold on retail premises can harm people are:

■ How could a fire start?
■ How could it spread?
■ What do I need to do to protect people if there is a fire?

The actions you need to take are to:

■ prevent a fire starting;
■ stop it spreading;
■ protect people in the event of a fire.

The risk assessment is about taking sensible, common sense precautions. For example, a fire could be started by a cigarette so you will need to take steps to stop people smoking anywhere near the fireworks.

Product Recall for Mattressman Comforcel Elite and Supreme Mattresses. The products present a risk of fire because the anti-slip part on the bottom surface of the mattress failed flammability testing. If exposed to an ignition source, the mattress could ignite and flame, causing a fire.

The products have been recalled from end users by Mattressman Ltd.

Affected customers have been contacted directly by the retailer. If you own this product and have not been contacted, stop using it and contact Mattressman for a refund or replacement.

🚨 WARNING! Doorstep caller impersonating an officer from Ipswich Borough Council
We have received a report of a caller approaching properties in the IP3 area of Ipswich, claiming to work for "Ipswich Council", offering new energy contracts.

The caller had no ID or uniform and is described as a male in his 20's to 30's. The caller advised a resident that they were calling because they live in the "red zone for energy prices", and wanted to offer them a deal.

The caller may still be in the area, or could have moved on elsewhere in the County. Please share to warn friends, family and neighbours.

Product Recall for Mint Velvet Raya Espadrille Wedge Sandals sold by Next. The products present a risk of injuries as it has been identified that the footbed can become dislodged from the wedge heel. If the footbed unexpectedly became dislodged during use, the user could fall leading to injuries.
