John will be presenting "Not Every Tension is in the Chest: A Paediatric Resus", an insightful paediatric case study designed to help clinicians build confidence and develop their approach to managing critically unwell children in the pre-hospital setting.

John is a Critical Care Paramedic with the and , as well as Secretary of BASICS North West. He brings a wealth of operational and clinical experience, having previously served with one of the UK's busiest Mountain Rescue Teams and as an Army Reservist, completing two tours of Afghanistan.

This promises to be a fascinating and highly practical session for anyone involved in pre-hospital emergency care.

Advance your pre-hospital care skills with the Immediate Care Course (ICC).

This intensive 5-day multidisciplinary course, running 19-23 October 2026 at Wethersfield Fire and Rescue Training Centre, Essex, is designed for registered healthcare professionals providing, or aspiring to provide, advanced pre-hospital care.

Aligned to Skills for Health Level 7 (Advanced Practice), the course develops clinical, leadership and decision-making skills through realistic medical, trauma and major incident scenarios.

Participants will:
โ€ข Work within multidisciplinary emergency care teams
โ€ข Explore human factors and leadership in operational environments
โ€ข Manage patients across all age groups (including infant and paediatric) and presentations
โ€ข Take part in complex scenarios alongside Fire and Rescue crews, including road traffic collisions
โ€ข Develop practical and non-technical skills essential for advanced pre-hospital practice

The course also provides excellent CPD for doctors interested in Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) and valuable preparation for the Diploma in Immediate Medical Care (DipIMC).

Speaker Preview: Surg Lt Cdr Laura Cottey ๐Ÿš‘

Weโ€™re delighted to announce our next speaker for The Pre-Hospital Care Conference 2026 โ€” Surg Lt Cdr Laura Cottey, who will be delivering a session on Analgesia on Friday 9th October.

Laura is an Emergency Medicine doctor who recently completed a PhD exploring mitochondrial optimisation in trauma and haemorrhagic shock. Her research experience also includes leading a national collaborative study into recovery among Emergency Medicine physicians, as well as projects exploring emergency supplemental oxygen use in military patients and patient consent in pain research.

Alongside her clinical and academic work, Laura has a keen interest in medical leadership and management, holding an MSc in Leadership for Health Professionals.
