When the Siemens Pod-cart came to Frugalpac… 🎙️

Our Product Director, JP Grogan, stepped inside Siemens mobile studio to discuss how we’re scaling low-carbon paper bottles to commercial volumes.

JP explains that packaging accounts for around half the carbon footprint of a bottle of wine. And as global wine and spirits production generates 33 billion glass bottles annually producing 18.5 million tons of carbon, changing the bottle presents a major opportunity for the drinks industry.

Now Siemens automation helps power our FBAM-2 platform, enabling it to manufacture up to 14 million Frugal Bottles a year – each with a carbon footprint up to six times lower than standard glass.

Made with 100% recycled paperboard and an easily separable and monomaterial liner, the Frugal Bottle is designed with recycling in mind.

Europe’s packaging rules are changing and the Frugal Bottle is ready

From 12 August, the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) takes effect across Europe, in a move to raise the bar for packaging safety, recyclability and waste reduction.

At Frugalpac, we believe better packaging should not only look good and cut carbon but be designed for the future.

Following a full review of the materials used in the Frugal Bottle, we can confirm:

No PFAS or BPA are intentionally added
Total fluorine is below 10ppm – well within the PPWR limit of 50ppm
The bottle complies with the regulation’s heavy metal restrictions

Now, producers who choose the Frugal Bottle can have even greater confidence as Europe moves towards a safer, lower-waste and more circular packaging economy.
