A very Happy 80th Birthday to Graham Cullen who joined HMS Ganges on 21st November 1961. ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿฅƒ

This fantastic cake was made by his wife Wendy to commemorate his special day. Iโ€™m sure Graham was well pleased. The cap is vanilla cake with the cap tally bought from the museum online slops. The base is chocolate cake. ๐ŸŽ‚๐Ÿ˜‹

Graham canโ€™t remember his mess or class but has a letter sent to his parents from Captain J R Gower SB-8084.

Does anyone remember Graham?

THINKING OF VOLUNTEERING?

Come in and see us this weekend...

We are always on the lookout for suitable local people (age 18 to infinity) to help us present and maintain our independent, volunteer run, Naval History Museum preserving the memories of all those who trained and served at HMS Ganges from 1905 to its closure in 1976.

If you have time on your hands and think you'd like to help us maintain our local naval heritage please do get in touch.

Visit the museum for a look around at our many artefacts and chat with our volunteers.

Two delightful visitors to the museum today were Eugene and Albert. They were in the area on holiday with their family from West Sussex.

Of course our Chairman and Dog Whisperer, Colin, had some treats to hand for our special visitors.

By sheer coincidence there was a local Thames Barge race coming up the River Orwell going past the museum and into the River Stour before turning round to go back.

An interesting view on a pleasantly warm day.

The museum is open Saturdays and Sundays (to last Sunday of October), Entry 11am - 4pm, Last Entry 3:30pm. Digs welcome. Free Entry for all. Donations very welcome.

From time to time old friends meet up and last Saturday was one of those occasions. Tommy Thompson and I both joined HMS Ganges in November 1963 (63 Recruitment) and, following our time in the Annexe as members of B193 class spending the next 11 months in Blake Division 7 Mess. Tommy now resides in Scotland but had made the journey with his wife Liz and Jack, their Jack Russell to take the 'walk down memory lane'. We spent some enjoyable time reminiscing and remembering the other members of B192 & 193 not forgetting the class of 5 SBA's who shared 7 Mess with us. Was great to see you again Tommy next time we meet perhaps we can get a few of the others to join us.
