Anglia Care Trust

Anglia Care Trust We are a charity providing services to vulnerable people in Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex. Advice, guidance and advocacy - helping people to be heard.

Founded in 1968, we support vulnerable people within the community providing housing services, domestic abuse services, drug and alcohol services, counseling and mediation, money and employment advice, to adults, children, and families. Our services can be categories as:
Community safety: working with male and female victims of domestic abuse and providing outreach, crisis and intensive support

along with advice and guidance on surrounding issues; alcohol recovery project
Housing services: helping vulnerable individuals to gain the necessary skills to maintain tenancies and live independently. We deliver housing services both on an independent basis and as part of a group of agencies working together and known as the SNAP Consortium. We provide money advice, employment advice; we run an Appropriate Adult scheme; we provide mentoring services and advocacy & Independent Visitor services and mediation services. We also part of the Ipswich Local Advice Partnership (ILAP), a partnership of 12 local agencies working together to improve the provision of advice for the people of Ipswich. We have 65 staff and around 100 volunteers - they are all amazing people, providing the best services and all of whom are dedicated to their work; our staff have taken part in many fundraising events to help provide extra services and we have created an Empowerment Fund to empower our service users to change their lives for the better. Grants are awarded for activities, training and support that’s proven to have a sustainable, long-term effect, and which can’t be gained elsewhere.

A huge thank you to the Suffolk Show for generously donating tickets for our service users to attend this year’s show.

For some of the people we support through our Service User Engagement Programme, the Suffolk Show is one of the biggest events they attend all year. With so much to see, hear and experience, it can feel overwhelming at times - which makes it even more rewarding to see our service users building confidence and enjoying this community event together.

We are grateful to the Suffolk Show for making this experience possible.

One of the things we pride ourselves on is providing opportunities for people to develop new skillsets and gain experience of our different teams and services. Brian’s journey is a brilliant example of that.

Most recently working within our Drug and Alcohol Service, he has supported vulnerable people experiencing drug and alcohol misuse and the many challenges that can come with it. He came to ACT with lots of management experience and combining this with his work with vulnerable people, he has now begun an exciting new chapter as Operational Coordinator for our Appropriate Adult Service that brings all of his skills together.

The service supports young people and vulnerable adults who have been detained, with our Volunteers and Support Officers attending Police Investigation Centres across Norfolk and Suffolk to help ensure individuals understand their rights and are supported during what can often be a difficult and stressful experience.

Brian will be co-ordinating our amazing team of 120 Volunteers and 18 Support Officers and is looking forward to getting to know everyone. For Brian, strong communication, building relationships and recognising the efforts of staff and volunteers are key to helping any team provide the best possible service.

We’re excited to see him begin this next chapter — welcome to the Appropriate Adult team Brian!

We’re proud to share a milestone that says a lot about our people and our mission.

Within our organisation, 14 members of staff have given 10+ years of service, representing 13% of our total workforce. Together, they bring an extraordinary depth of experience, continuity, and commitment to our work.

Across the team, this amounts to 184 years of combined service dedicated to supporting our communities and delivering our mission.

Our staff surveys tell us that they stay because they believe in the difference we are making, the values we hold and the impact we have together.

Strong teams are built on shared purpose and we’re incredibly proud of the dedication shown by colleagues past and present who continue to shape our organisation.

So, whether you have been here 1 year or 20 – thank you to all of our staff and volunteers for your commitment to ACT.

It’s been a week since the Anglia Business Exhibition, where we held our Empowerment Fund Raffle, raising over £260.

This fund is used to support our service users with practical needs that help build independence and confidence and every pound raised goes towards meaningful support when it’s needed most.

Thank you to everyone who took part and contributed.

The mental health groups and community activities that we run can play such an important role in our service user’s wellbeing.

As part of our Service User Engagement Programme, we provide opportunities for people to get outdoors, enjoy fresh air and take part in walks together. These activities can help reduce isolation, build confidence, encourage connection and support positive mental health.

Sometimes a walk, a conversation and feeling part of a community can make all the difference and we’re really proud that we can offer this.

Today we attended the Anglia Business Exhibition as Charity of the Year Partner!

It’s been a fantastic opportunity to connect and network with local businesses, share more about the work we do at Anglia Care Trust, and build meaningful community partnerships.

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week and it’s been great to be at the Port of Felixstowe's 'Health and Wellbeing Event' today, promoting the services available at Anglia Care Trust.

It’s been a fantastic opportunity to speak with people about the support we provide and have been so pleased to see so much interest in our volunteering opportunities and the different ways people can get involved in supporting their local community.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat with us today and to the Port of Felixstowe for hosting such an important event.
