Acton Court, , , , , AC has numerous garderobes (en-suite) in the royal chambers and other buildings, which all emptied into the moat!
Garderobe refers to a medieval or Renaissance toilet or a close stool. It was usually a simple hole discharging to the outside into a cesspit (akin to a pit latrine) or the moat, depending on the structure of the building. Such toilets were often placed inside a small chamber also used to store clothes; it was believed that ammonia—a byproduct of excretion—would protect visitors' coats and cloaks from moths and fleas.

AC has a wonderful selection of chimneys and they look spectacular in various lighting.

AC was built on a Pennant Sandstone outcrop with no foundations; The walls were built with this same stone quarried locally from the moat and a local quarry. They were built by the local farm wallers, as they were the experts in dry stone walling, and they used loam between the stones as bonding.
No mortar was used except where the stone masons fitted the doors and windows until the building was restored. This means the walls tended to sag and move; hence the number of buttresses found around the building.

Stairs carved from oak, the vertical post is alleged to be from a spar or mast from a sailing ship, possibly owned by Sir Nicholas Poyntz
