🏛️✨ Encountering Rome: A Multisensory Journey from Early Medieval Britain ✨🏛️
with Dr Gianluca Foschi of Newcastle University
Step back in time and experience the wonder of Rome through the eyes of travellers from the British Isles 🌍⛪
‘Historical documents from the seventh and eighth centuries attest to sustained relations and journeys between Britain and Rome. What is far more difficult to understand is the experience of visitors from the British Isles upon reaching the city after so long and intense a journey.
With the aid of immersive technologies and a rigorous scientific approach, we shall attempt to understand what they saw and heard. We shall consider their impression of the sensory landscape of the city, and how it shaped the course of history, the exercise of power, and ultimately everyday life in early medieval Britain’
Discover how the city’s atmosphere shaped:
⚔️ Power and politics
🏰 Everyday life in early medieval Britain
📖 Religion, culture, and history
Whether you love history, archaeology, or simply a great story from the past, this is an evening not to miss! ✨
🕕 Doors Open: 6:00 PM
🎤 Lecture: 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
🎟️ Tickets: £8 per person
🍷 Bar available throughout the evening
🪪 Challenge 25 policy will be upheld
