There was lots of excitement in Stopsley this afternoon as Red Watch joined Sarah Owen MP for the official opening of the new fire-themed toddler park at Ashcroft Road recreation ground 🚒

Complete with an interactive fire engine installation and located just behind Stopsley Community Fire Station, the refurbished play area is already shaping up to be a brilliant space for local children and families to enjoy.

Before cutting the ribbon, Sarah Owen MP said the park was one of many across Luton being refurbished to help create a bright future for children and families.

Flashing lights, loud music and smoke filling the room…no, not your typical night out, we’re talking about a recent fire training exercise.

Earlier this summer, crews from Leighton Buzzard Community Fire Station, Toddington Community Fire Station and Woburn Community Fire Station teamed up with colleagues from Fire and Rescue Service to tackle a simulated nightclub fire.

Cosmetic smoke, strobe lighting and loud music helped to recreate the challenging conditions firefighters would face as they worked together to locate and rescue casualties, fight multiple fires and safely navigate all three levels of the building.

A huge thank you to our Bedfordshire Fire Cadets, who volunteered to play casualties and helped make the exercise as realistic as possible.

Exercises like these are great opportunities for our crews to train in realistic conditions, strengthen working relationships with our neighbouring services and make sure we’re ready to respond when Bedfordshire needs us most 🧑‍🚒 🚒

Yesterday, crews from Biggleswade Community Fire Station , Dunstable Community Fire Station , Kempston Community Fire Station , Leighton Buzzard Community Fire Station , Luton Community Policing Team , Potton Community Fire Station Shefford Community Fire Station Stopsley Community Fire Station and Woburn Community Fire Station were joined by a crew from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service to tackle a large field fire in Dagnall. ,

Despite the rain, the fire severity index is still high for Bedfordshire.

You can help keep Bedfordshire safe by avoiding all activity that could start a fire.

Crews are at a field fire in Hemel Hempstead Road, Dagnall. Local residents are advised to close their windows and doors if affected by the smoke.

There are a large number of emergency service vehicles in attendance so please avoid the area to enable access.

Heading out to enjoy the sunshine near water this weekend? ☀️

Whether you’re spending time by a river, lake or reservoir, remember that open water can be dangerous.

Cold water shock can affect anyone, even strong swimmers, and hidden hazards beneath the surface can quickly turn a fun day out into an emergency.

If you’re planning to enter the water this weekend, remember:

• Stick to designated swimming areas, where possible
• Swim with others and look out for each other
• Avoid alcohol before entering the water
• Know where you can get out before you get in

If you find yourself struggling in the water, remember float to live – tilt your head back, relax and try to control your breathing.

If you spot someone in trouble in the water, call 999 and ask for the fire service 🚒

Let’s make sure everyone enjoys the sunshine and gets home safely this weekend.

Recently, firefighters from Woburn Community Fire Station took part in a multi-agency training exercise in Aspley Woods, alongside colleagues from Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service , Bucks Search & Rescue and other partner agencies.

The exercise simulated a wildfire scenario, giving crews the opportunity to practise their response, strengthen partnerships and test how different organisations work together during a wildfire incident.

Despite the rain we’ve experience this week, the fire severity index is still very high, so please:

• Avoid disposable BBQs and campfires in parks, fields and open countryside
• Dispose of ci******es safely and never throw them on the ground or from car windows
• Take your litter home, especially glass bottles, which can increase fire risk in direct sunlight

If you spot a fire, call 999 and ask for the fire service 🚒
