Whether you're hiking up fells on two legs or four, views of the Lake District are to be enjoyed by all, just like this week's .

If you are taking your furry friends for a walk in the National Park, please remember to keep dogs on a lead, pick up your dog's poo and leave only pawprints. Dogs' waste is harmful to our livestock and wildlife, so help us keep this landscape safe for all.

High on the fells above Glenridding lies Greenside Lead Mine, one of the Lake District's most significant industrial heritage sites.

A Heritage Lottery Fund application has been submitted for 'Lead, Levels and Lives: The Greenside Mine Project', which aims to celebrate and explore the rich history of the mine, the valley and the people connected to it.

On 29 August, visit us at Patterdale Dog Day to find out more about the project and how you can get involved. Georgia, our World Heritage Site Co-ordinator, will be on hand to talk about all things World Heritage along with members of the Learning Team who will be there to talk about plans to collect oral histories, photographs, memories and stories linked to Greenside Mine, Glenridding and the surrounding valley.

We're particularly keen to hear from people with family connections to the mine or local community, and from anyone who has memories, photographs or information they would be willing to share.

Leave no trace, just good vibes.

‘Rubbish Campsites’ is our new campaign encouraging people to book ‘unreal’ official campsites and tackle irresponsible behaviour.

Our rangers, in partnership with National Trust, Forestry England and Westmorland & Furness Council have been engaging with groups found to be camping irresponsibly and handing them branded bin bags, as well as providing advice on how to wild camp responsibly.

As part of the campaign, people can find bins at Glenridding and Coniston Boating Centre, over the bank holiday weekend, which encourages people to take and use their litter to vote for their favourite fell.

You may have heard of Bassenthwaite Lake, but did you know it is a National Nature Reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and part of the River Derwent and Bassenthwaite Lake Special Area of Conservation?

The lake supports both nationally and internationally important populations of aquatic plants and fish, including floating water plantain, Atlantic salmon and vendace. Vendace is the UK’s rarest fish and is only found naturally in two lakes in England: Derwent Water and Bassenthwaite Lake.

Unlike many lakes in the Lake District, Bassenthwaite has extensive sections of natural lakeshore vegetation and these support nationally important assemblages of invertebrates, plants and birds including thread rush, water sedge, great crested grebe, little ringed plover, osprey, kingfisher, reed bunting, reed warbler and grasshopper warbler.

A trim-endous job!

Earlier this month, Ranger Anna snapped these pictures of a small group of volunteers who helped our rangers with the annual cutting of a wildflower meadow in Glenridding.

Each year, the team cuts the wildflower meadow at the beginning of August, once the flowers have died and dropped their seeds. They then rake off the excess grass and flower cuttings to prevent the matter from rotting down and keep the soil nutrient-poor, allowing the wildflowers to grow again next year.

Introducing a new kind of bank...made from wildflowers!🌼

Cumbria's first biodiversity net gain habitat bank has launched at Lowther Estate.

The Lake District National Park Authority has supported Lowther Estate in a mutual pilot scheme, which will help restore 13 hectares of hay meadows in Cumbria.

The habitat bank provides hay meadow ‘units’ to developers, who are required by law to deliver at least a 10 per cent net gain in biodiversity for any developments. This helps ensure habitats for wildlife are left in a measurably better state than before development.
