After you're safely back from swimming, boating or paddleboarding on the water, remember: Check, Clean, Dry.

Check your boat, paddleboard or clothing for mud, aquatic animals or plant material. Invasive species like zebra mussels and water primrose are harmful to spread elsewhere. Remove anything you find and leave it at the site.

Clean everything thoroughly as soon as you can, paying attention to areas that are damp or hard to access. Use hot water if possible.

Dry everything for as long as you can before using elsewhere as some invasive plants and animals can survive for over two weeks in damp conditions. This ensures your equipment or clothing is safe to use in another body of water.

Enjoying this un-fall-gettable view as much as we are this ? With temperatures rising, waterfalls and smaller pools seem like a great place to cool off. However, it's important to still be water aware and follow these tips for a safe adventure:

-Ease yourself into the water slowly to avoid cold water shock
-Avoid jumping into waters - you can't always see the hazards
-Be mindful of slippery rocks
-Bring a change of clothes and refreshments to warm up afterwards
-Never swim alone

With exceptionally hot weather arriving in the Lake District National Park this week, an amber heat-health alert has been issued by the UK Health Security Agency.

To keep yourself and others safe during your time in the National Park, please remember to:

-drink plenty of water
-bring lots of refreshments and leave no trace
-wear sun cream
-take extra breaks and stick to the shade where possible
-pack a picnic, not a bbq

Please do not light fires or barbecues as the hot and dry weather increases the risk of wildfires, which can cause devastation to the landscape, wildlife and habitats.

Please take extra care of your four-legged friends during the heatwave. Avoid leaving dogs in cars in hot weather too - even in temperatures of 20°C outside, a car can reach 45°C inside in minutes.

Think very carefully before you take your dog on a walk this week. With a rare red heat warning being issued in parts of the UK, hot pavements and high temperatures can quickly put dogs at risk 💔

Hold the back of your hand to the ground for several seconds. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for your dog's paws.

Walk dogs during the coolest times of the day, such as early morning or late evening. On exceptionally hot days, it may be best to avoid walks altogether and instead focus on enrichment activities and keeping your dog cool and comfortable at home.

When you think of rainforests, do you think of the UK? 🌧️🌿
They might feel worlds away, but some of the rarest rainforests on Earth are right here.
In the west of the UK, mist and Atlantic rainfall create the perfect conditions for temperate rainforests — full of mosses, ferns and lichens growing over everything.
These woodlands were once much more widespread. Today, they survive in special places like Eryri, Dartmoor and Loch Lomond & The Trossachs.

What does a Collie dog, a cake and our fabulous National Park volunteers have in common? They were all celebrating some fantastic achievements on Volunteers Day!

For Volunteers Day on 6 June, to mark the 75th anniversary of the Lake District National Park, our Volunteering team organised a special day of celebration at Thirlmere Recreation Hall.

Our volunteers are vital in helping to keep the National Park beautiful and thriving, having contributed 35,409 hours in 2025. Awards were presented to our long serving volunteers, from awards for 250 duties, to 30 years of contribution! Special congratulations to:

Annie Wallen – 10 years
Tricia Brown – 25 years
Geoff Cowell – 30 years
Jane Chambers – 250 duties
Judith Edwards – 250 duties

Collie Jura and her handler, John, from Kendal Mountain Search & Rescue Team, gave a presentation on what they do and the relationship and training between search dog and handler.
