Our rescues aren't always in the most accessible of places, that's why our team were out Sunday morning honing their off-road driving skills. I think it's safe to say the team enjoyed themselves!

As well as responding to call-outs, all team members make a significant time commitment to training. The team organises over 300 hours of training each year, ensuring team members are always ready to respond safely and effectively to emergencies in the fells.

Andy and Gary are currently preparing to complete a four day challenge along the Isle of Wight coastal path, in memory of their friend Dave who very sadly passed away this year.

19/09/2026. Seven teams from across the lakes are competing in a fun challenge hosted by Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team Challenges are designed to test the competitors skill in various MR tasks.
All the tasks are related to incidents that MR teams experience for real on the hill or in the lakes and rivers in Cumbria.

As with all teams across the lakes, Kendal team has witnessed a steady increase in the number of callouts over the years.

One of the aims of Mountain Rescue is to hopefully reduce these numbers by providing people with helpful information on how to enjoy a day out. is one of the tools we use. It provides information about clothing, weather and looking after your group.

It is Kendal’s Blue Light Day this weekend. We will be opening our doors, along with the other emergency services on Busher Walk, so members of the public can come and see what we do.

There will be equipment on display, and team members to chat to. Come along any time between 10:00 and 16:00 - everyone is welcome!

We’ll also be running a technical rope rescue demonstration on the day. If you’re interested in watching, come down for 13:30 to watch the team put their skills into action 🧗‍♀️

Two weeks until we throw open the doors at Kendal Fire Station.

Come and meet the crew, explore a range of emergency services, enjoy food and drink stalls, get stuck into games for all ages, and take part in our Firefighters Charity raffle packed with prizes donated by our amazing local community.

August has proved to be similar to July for the team. A very quiet first two weeks and then from the 17th a run of callouts.
17/08/2026: 11:28hrs.
Team called to Sizergh Castle after a walker had slipped and sustained a lower leg injury. With the location being on a remote path the team assisted NWAS in treating the casualty and stretchering her to the ambulance.
17/08/2026: 12:35hrs.
Just as we were packing away our kit at Sizergh we received a further request from NWAS to assist with another lower leg injury at Kendal Castle. Team arrived on scene and along with the Paramedics and an on call Doctor treated the casualty before transferring her to the ambulance.
Two castles in one day, both lower leg injuries and just to add, both casualties had the same first name!!
19/08/2026: 16:01hrs

20/08/2026: 21:00hrs.
Call from Cumbria police that a mother with two children had lost their way as darkness fell in Craggy woods. Team used phone find to locate them and guide them to the nearest path. A team member who lived nearby was also soon on scene to ensure they were ok.
21/08/2026: 11:28hrs
Team called by Cumpol. A walker had sustained a lower leg injury whilst close to the summit of Ill Bell. Due to the location, nature of injury and high likelyhood of a carry off we requested the assistance of Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team (LAMRT). After assessing and treating the casualty a safe route down the fell was planned and the casualty was safely backroped down. (Remaining images).
We wish all of our casualties speedy recoveries and safe adventures in the future. It was also reassuring that our casualties had been well prepared for their days out. .

Kendal Mountain Search and Rescue Team, as with all mountain rescue teams, is made up of volunteers. Funding comes from the kind donations of the public. This funding enables us to train in all aspects of mountain and river rescues. Training also includes maintaining a high level of first aid, driving vehicles in a safe manner when on the public highway and off road. 19/08/2026: Team received a call from Cumbria police informing us that a walker was enjoying an afternoon stroll at Sleddale Forest when his dog had slipped into a gully and was unable to bear weight on one of his legs. Team deployed and soon found Ron waiting patiently with his owner. With advice over the phone from our team vet, Ron was treated on scene and was soon ready to be stretchered off. To keep Ron reassured his owner was only to happy to lie on the stretcher while the team sledded them down the fell. We wish Ron a full recovery and plenty of treats.🐾

01/08/2026

The last 2 weeks in July proved to be very busy for the team.

18/07/26: 19:09hrs: Gummers Howe. Team called by Cumbria Police (Cumpol) to assist in the search for a vulnerable person. Person was found not long after the team deployed (images 1&2)

21/07/26: 15:43hrs: Gummers Howe. Team called by Cumpol. A gentleman out walking his dog had slipped and sustained a hip injury. Team treated the casualty and stretchered him down to an awaiting ambulance. His Collie was very happy to be spoilt by the team prior to being picked up by the gentleman's friend. (Images 3&4).

22/07/26: 12:01hrs: Kirkby Lonsdale. Team called by NWAS. A walker had slipped down a river bank. Team stood down on arrival as paramedics had been able to assist the gentleman to the ambulance.

28/07/26: 12:21hrs: Mickle Moss. Team called by NWAS. A walker had taken a fall injuring her knee and sustaining a laceration below the knee. With the casualty not found on the original grid ref due to phone difficulties the team conducted a vehicle and foot search. Fortunately the companion with the casualty managed to get in touch with base and we were soon on scene. After treating the casualty we drove them back to the lodge that they were staying at.

29/07/26: 11:56hrs: Langdale assist. Team called to assist with a callout on Stickle Tarn. Team stood down as casualty was able to walk down and no stretcher carry was required

29/07/26: 13:33hrs: Sedbergh, Winder fell. Team called by NWAS after 12yr old boy had taken a fall from his mountain bike. The young lad was able to walk to the ambulance.

30/07/26: 13:19hrs: Farleton Knott. Team called by Cumpol after a mother and son had got themselves stuck on very loose and steep ground. Team soon reached them both and with a quick bit of rigging got them both down safely. (Last image)

30/07/26: 17:11hrs: Langdale assist: Team called to assist with a callout on Crinkle crags (bad step). Fortunately helimed H58 was able to attend the scene meaning that we could stand down.

The Hundred, the Blast, the Ashes, T20 world cup. You can all step aside. This rivalry means so much more. The annual(ish) cricket match between KendalMRT and Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team (LAMRT) is a franchise that even Sky Sports couldn't afford. It was a great evening with lots of friendly banter and a chance for team members and families from both teams to enjoy themselves. The trophy is now in Kendal hands, but next year....who knows. Many thanks to for hosting us and hotdogs for the food.
