Sizergh Castle NT Please see http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/sizergh for opening times This imposing house stands proud at the gateway to the Lake District.

Its rich and beautiful garden includes a pond, lake, a national collection of hardy ferns and a superb limestone rock garden. Still lived in by the Strickland family, Sizergh has many tales to tell and certainly feels lived in, with centuries-old portraits and fine furniture sitting alongside modern family photographs. The exceptional wood panelling culminates in the Inlaid Chamber, returned here in 1999 from the Victoria and Albert Museum. The 647-hectare (1,600-acre) estate includes limestone pasture, orchards and semi-natural woodland.

A little behind the scenes of Winter at Sizergh ✨

Something special is taking shape, and it all starts with the talented artists and makers bringing the magic to life. Led by Ulverston-based creative director Dan Fox, this year's experience brings together creatives who will bring an imaginative world to life inspired by Sizergh's wildlife, landscape and history.

From intricate metalwork casting swirling starlings across medieval walls to giant glowing toadstools, interactive ferns and willow woodland creatures made with local school children, every installation has a story behind it.

Winter at Sizergh returns from 20 November to 24 December, with an interactive outdoor trail and a Georgian-inspired Christmas experience inside the house.

Come and see how it all comes together. Book your visit: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/lake-district/sizergh/winter-at-sizergh

Thanks to Ranger Rob for these photos showing the process from the workshop to the finished gate in situ.

🚗 Parking update at Sizergh 🚗

From today, we're introducing an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) parking system at Sizergh, which will help create a safer experience for visitors and keep the site more secure.

This familiar technology is used widely in public car parks and is also being trialled at a number of National Trust places. As a conservation charity, the income raised from parking helps us care for Sizergh's historic house and garden, protect wildlife, restore habitats across the estate and look after this special place for everyone to enjoy. 💚

A few things to know before you visit:

✅ National Trust members park for free by scanning their membership card at the payment machine or in the JustPark app. Every scan helps fund our work at Sizergh.

✅ Blue Badge holders can park for free. Simply let our Welcome Team know your registration number when you arrive, or display your Blue Badge if no one is available.

✅ National Trust for Scotland members still park for free. However, as National Trust for Scotland is a separate charity, we’re unable to scan your membership card on our machines, as we don’t hold your details. On arrival pop and see the Welcome Team and they'll make a note of your car registration.

✅ Forgot to pay? Don't worry. You'll have up to 48 hours after your visit to pay using the JustPark app or online payment page. https://www.justpark.com

Thank you for your support. Every time you pay to park, you're helping us care for Sizergh now and for future generations. 🌿

⚠️ We're upgrading the car park at Sizergh. Works expected on site from 7 September to 2 November.

We're carrying out improvements to our car park to make future visits even better. This includes updating the car parking system, adding electric vehicle charging points and fixing the broken cattle grid.

During this time, there will be fewer parking spaces available than usual.

There is some limited layby parking on the road by the Strickland Arms.

We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while this work is completed. Please check this page for the latest updates before you travel.
