Tonight's the night for our...

✨CASTLE CROSSING DROP IN, and
✨ RESIDENTS CASTLE PASS DROP IN

Both are taking place simultaneously at Kenilworth Castle this evening (Thursday 15 October 2026) between 4pm and 8pm. Drop in anytime, grab a coffee and have a chat with representatives from English Heritage, the Town Council and WCC.

** RESIDENTS CASTLE PASS DROP IN**

For those that may have missed this, alongside the Castle Crossing drop in, we are hosting a Residents Castle Pass drop in session. This will take place at Kenilworth Castle on 15 October 2026 between 4pm and 8pm. Bring along your photo ID (with address details) and the exact change of £6 (IN CASH ONLY) and we will be able to produce a pass for you to take home.

✨ RESIDENTS DROP IN EVENT ✨

Come along to the Castle on 15 October 2026 between 4pm and 8pm and learn more about the proposed castle crossing, the new English Heritage Pathways and take the opportunity to obtain your Residents Castle Pass whilst you're at it!

There will be representatives from WCC, English Heritage and the Town Council there to answer your questions and talk through the plans. We will also have officers on hand if you need to apply for or renew your Residents Castle Pass. If you do wish to obtain your pass on the evening, please ensure you bring some photo ID (displaying your address) and the correct (exact) payment fee of £6.

Refreshments will also be available!

A fair bit to catch up on this week, grab a cuppa and settle in, here is your Town Council round up...

👉 At the recent Finance Committee meeting, Members were pleased to award over £30,000 in Community Grant funds to fifteen applicants. All are worthy local causes who have the full support of the Town Council in their activities. A third and final grant round for the year will be taking place in January with a deadline of 11 January 2027 for completed applications. 👉 Members also extended the excellent work recently completed on challenging Regulation 19 of the WDC South Warwickshire Local Plan, by approving a further spend of £5,000 for planning and consultancy assistance on any major planning applications that may arise in the short term. This risk remains whilst we await the new South Warwickshire Local Plan and it is important that Members are in an informed position to respond.
👉 The Council chamber played host to the Kenilworth Abbey Advisory Committee on Friday morning discussing all things related to Abbey Fields and the Kenilworth Abbey.
👉 Our Planning Committee met and discussed the new planning legislation that is due to come into effect from 31 October 2026. In simple terms the Town Council are no longer able to 'call in' planning applications and request these go before a full WDC Planning Committee. Instead the decision on most applications will be made by WDC Officers with the exception of major applications. We will keep you informed should this change how our Planning Committee currently operates.
👉 Finally don't forget the Town Council are hosting a drop in session for residents to learn more about the new castle crossing and/or to obtain your Residents Castle Pass. This will be held at Kenilworth Castle on Thursday 15 October 2026 between 4pm and 8pm.

Your weekly Friday round up! Whilst there are quite a number of things we could include this week, you'll notice a more Christmassy theme emerging!

👉 Our exciting plans for the🎄High Street Christmas Light Switch On are being finalised and we are really looking forward to welcoming everyone! We have added a brilliant addition this year...the Teenage Market in the Parochial Hall! This event is entirely led by the Town Council and the Old Town Community Events team. Alongside St Nicholas Church, who are bringing their usual Christmas Tree Festival that weekend, it is shaping up to be a fabulous evening for our town! We may even have an icy Arctic friend joining us ❄
👉 Warwick District Council have advised they will NOT be holding their usual Warwick Road Christmas Light Switch On event this year but instead they will be hosting a 'festive hub' in Abbey End on Saturday 28 November between 10am and 5pm. The Warwick Road Christmas lights will not be switched on at this daytime event.
👉 Staying on the theme of Christmas...the following Saturday on 5 December the Town Council are hosting our Small Business Saturday event. We plan to use one of our 'Free Parking' days in the town centre (WDC carparks only), host a Shop Window Competition, have Musical Entertainment throughout the day, our Youth Council will be making an appearance and hosting a Local Business Christmas Sticker Trail (we'll be in touch with our local businesses soon!), 🎅Santa will be in his Grotto and we hope to have a handful of community stalls with a couple of Tombola's thrown in for good measure! The aim of the day is to bring people into the town to shop local and that is what we hope to achieve!
👉 Did someone say Christmas lights 🤔....at our Finance Committee last night Members approved a spend of up to £5,000 for the Town Council to brighten up our light offering! We know the Christmas Lights in the town need a revamp and that is very much on our list of things to do...in the meantime we have secured a Christmassy 3D addition this year and hope to extend this further next year!

WDC are delighted to announce the relaunch of a weekly food bank distribution session in Kenilworth, providing local residents with easier access to emergency food and wider support services.

The new session will be held at Abbey Hill United Reformed Church, Kenilworth, every Wednesday from 11.00am to 1.00pm, starting on 7 October 2026.

As well as providing emergency food, the weekly session will offer a welcoming space where people can talk to trained volunteers, receive practical guidance, and be connected to other sources of support within the community.

So what's been happening lately...🤔

😀 You'll shortly be seeing posters pop up around the town inviting all residents to a drop in session at Kenilworth Castle to learn more about the new proposed crossing on Castle Road. This will link Abbey Fields/the town centre to the Castle with a puffin crossing. Come along on the evening of 15 October 2026 between 4pm and 8pm.
😀 Officers met with the Old Town Events Committee to discuss more details surrounding the High Street Christmas Light Switch On. Being held on Friday 27 November 2026 between 5pm and 8pm, our banners will be up soon for this much loved traditional Kenilworth event!
😀 Plans are underway for a town centre event on Small Business Saturday to be held on 5 December 2026. Father Christmas has confirmed he can spare some time from his busy schedule and we will have some fantastic local entertainment throughout the day 🎶
😀 Community Grant interviews were held over the last two weeks for all major funding applications received. We have received an unprecedented number of applications for this round and we will therefore be conducting an overall review of our Grant provision going forwards.
😀 As an extension to our recent Kenilworth Revealed project, this week a brick outline was installed in Abbey Fields depicting the exact location of the old Abbey. Whilst the bricks have had to be fairly discrete due to the area being a scheduled monument, the attached annotated image gives you a real idea of the size of the Abbey and a further insight into our Town's history! Go take a look!
