This week, we had the pleasure of being invited to deliver a talk to the Shottery U3A group at St. Andrew’s Church Hall in Shottery, Stratford-upon-Avon.

It was fantastic to meet so many interested and engaged members, and to have the opportunity to share more about the work of Warwickshire Search and Rescue, our volunteers, and how we support the emergency services and local communities.

A huge thank you to everyone at Shottery U3A for making us feel so welcome. We are especially grateful for your generous donations, which will help us continue providing our vital search and rescue service across Warwickshire and the surrounding areas.

🚤🌊 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 🌊🚤

Last night, our Swift Water Rescue team came together at HQ for an important familiarisation and training session.

The evening included:

✅ Familiarisation with both new and existing rescue boats, including updates to our new sign-off procedures
✅ Equipment inspection training to ensure operational readiness
✅ Inspection and logging of issued PPE and rescue equipment
✅ Rope work practice and skills refreshers

Regular training and equipment checks are essential to maintaining the high standards required for safe and effective water rescue operations. Sessions like these help ensure our volunteers remain confident, competent and ready to respond when needed.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to another productive evening of learning and development.

This Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating the incredible people who make Warwickshire Search & Rescue possible.

We are proud to be a 100% volunteer-led charity. Every search, every training session, every fundraising event, every piece of equipment maintained, and every callout attended is made possible by volunteers who generously give their time, skills, and commitment to help others.

Our team is made up of people from all walks of life, bringing together a wide range of experience and expertise. From our operational search technicians who respond to incidents, to our management team, search support, team support volunteers and Friends of the Team, every role plays a vital part in helping us save lives and support our communities across Warwickshire and beyond.

Behind every volunteer is another group of unsung heroes – our families, friends and loved ones. Their support, understanding and encouragement allow us to answer the call, often at short notice and at all hours of the day and night. We simply couldn’t do what we do without them.

To every member of Warwickshire Search & Rescue, and to the families who stand behind them, thank you for your dedication, commitment and support.

Another great training weekend for Warwickshire Search and Rescue! 👏

Yesterday, our trainees completed their Search Technician Course, developing essential skills to become effective field searchers.

They covered search techniques, detection, recognition, and searcher spacing—key skills for locating vulnerable missing people and critical evidence during operations.

The course also featured practical exercises:
🔍 Hasty search along a track 🔍 Small object search. 🔍 The infamous penny search in the woods!

A huge well done to everyone for their hard work and enthusiasm. We’re excited to see these skills continue to grow in future training and deployments.

𝗔𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗲! 👏

Yesterday, another group of trainees completed their 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲, developing the knowledge and skills needed to become effective searchers in the field.

Throughout the course, they learned about a range of search techniques, the key principles of detection and recognition, searcher spacing, and much more. These are all vital skills that help us maximise the chances of locating vulnerable missing people and critical evidence during search operations.

Of course, learning in the classroom is only part of the process. We then put their knowledge to the test with a series of practical exercises, including:

🔍 A hasty search along a track
🔍 A small object search
🔍 The infamous penny search in the woods!

Yes, that last one really does involve finding 1p and 2p coins hidden amongst brown leaves on the woodland floor. It may sound simple, but it's a great way to demonstrate just how challenging detection can be and why effective search techniques are so important.

A huge well done to all of our trainees for their hard work, enthusiasm and determination throughout the course. We look forward to seeing these skills continue to develop during future training and operational deployments.

Yesterday, members of Warwickshire Search and Rescue were delighted to attend Leamington parkrun, where we had the pleasure of running the café and providing refreshments for all the fantastic runners, volunteers, and supporters.

We also brought along our brand-new boat, giving everyone the opportunity to take a closer look and learn more about how it will help us carry out our search and rescue operations across Warwickshire and beyond.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by, chatted with our team, and made a donation. Your kindness, generosity, and ongoing support truly mean the world to us.

As a volunteer-led charity, we rely on the support of our local community to keep our team trained, equipped, and ready to respond when needed. Every donation helps us continue providing this vital service and be there for our community when it matters most.

⛳️ Thank You for Supporting Our Charity Golf Day! 💚

What a fantastic day we had at our Charity Golf Day last week!

The day got off to a great start with bacon rolls, coffee, and an opportunity for participants to take a look around our search and rescue vehicles before heading out onto the course. Teams then teed off to enjoy an 18-hole Stableford competition, followed by some fun chipping and putting challenges to test their skills.

To round off the day, everyone came together for a lovely evening meal, raffle, auction, and prize presentation.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part, volunteered, donated prizes, supported the raffle and auction, and helped make the event such a success. A special thank you to Leamington & County Golf Club for providing a superb venue and NFU Mutual for your generous donation. Thanks to everyone’s generosity and support, we are incredibly proud to announce that we raised over £2,500 for Warwickshire Search and Rescue! 🎉

These funds will help us continue providing our vital search and rescue service across Warwickshire and beyond.

The day was such a success that we’re delighted to announce that we plan to make the Charity Golf Day an annual event. In fact, we’ve already secured a date for next year, so make sure it’s in your diary: Thursday 10th June 2027! 📅⛳

News stories coming across the country are showing us the importance of re-sharing this message from our colleagues at Midshires Search & Rescue.

Air temperatures may be baking us day and night at the moment as the UK faces its first summer heatwave however, water temperatures are a long way from catching up.

Everyone loves a quick dip to cool down but cold water shock is a silent killer, the importance of sharing this with our young people cannot be understated, everyone needs to follow safety advice avoid swimming in quarries and reservoirs that hold other hidden dangers below the surface, and be mindful of all the dangers before considering a little dip water the body of water whether stated above or the rivers and ponds that are present across our countryside.

For reference rescue teams will wear the full PPE shown in the video summer or winter to mitigate the dangers of water.

Should you want some water safety advice for young people please feel free to get in touch and a member of our water team would be happy to assist or point you in the right direction.
