We were delighted to be invited by Tim from Life in Leam to record an episode all about the event - 𝗔 𝗧𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗼𝗻 — a fantastic dine-around extravaganza taking place on 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 15th 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿, organised by the Royal Leamington Spa Rotary Club - England.

In the episode, Tom & Tess chat with Tim about what we do, the hard work involved in searching for vulnerable and missing people, and why fundraising is so important to keeping our team operational.

🥾🐾 5 in 2 – And Yes, Even the Dog Had to Do It! 😂

Yesterday, members of Warwickshire Search and Rescue headed out into North Warwickshire to complete their annual 5 in 2 fitness test.

The challenge? 5 miles, under 2 hours, across a variety of Warwickshire terrain. Easy, right? 😏

Well, we’re pleased to report that the team smashed it in an impressive 1 hour 33 minutes! 🎉💪

And because apparently humans aren’t the only ones who need to stay rescue-ready, even our trainee search dog joined us for her fitness test! 🐕🥾

She may have had four legs, but we’re not sure she appreciated being included in the paperwork… 😂

A fantastic effort from everyone involved — although some may be questioning why they signed up for a voluntary organisation that makes them walk 5 miles for fun! 🤣

👨‍✈️ 𝗖𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗲👩🏻‍✈️

Yesterday, we welcomed cadets to our HQ for a hands-on day learning more about how Warwickshire Search and Rescue supports our community and the work our volunteers carry out.

They took on a range of practical challenges, including:

💧 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 — Float to Survive, Shout, Reach & Throw Line
🚨 𝗦𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 — TRIM, contamination & Scene of Crime awareness
❤️ 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 & 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 — DR ABC, a 1-minute CPR challenge and extracting Fred on a wheeled stretcher through an obstacle course!
📍 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗼 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 — using What3Words to locate items in the field and communicate their findings back to Control.

A huge thank you to 2030 Birmingham Airport Squadron, Royal Air Force Air Cadets, 496 Sqn RAF Air Cadets - Official and everyone else who came along and made the day such a success.

It was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm, teamwork and willingness to learn. We hope you all had as much fun as we did! 🙌

𝗪𝗮𝗿𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗲 is completely self-funded, relying on the generosity of our supporters, fundraising and local businesses to keep our team operational.

It costs approximately £25,000–£30,000 every year to run our team. This covers essential overheads including fuel, insurance, utility bills, equipment checks and the rent for our HQ — costs that are vital to ensuring our volunteers are ready to respond when they’re needed.

🌙 Friday Night Training Update

This week’s training session was all about putting skills into practice after dark. 🔦

Our team conducted a search exercise with several key aims: helping trainees who are close to qualifying complete their practical sign-offs, giving our new Team Leaders valuable experience, and allowing the wider team to practise searching in darkness as the evenings begin to draw in.

A great opportunity to develop skills, build confidence and keep our team operationally ready. 👣🔦

💬 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 2026 🤝

Today, 28 August, we’re celebrating Makaton International Awareness Day and this year’s theme: 𝗧𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿.

Makaton is a powerful communication system that combines signs, symbols and speech to help people express themselves, understand others and connect with the world around them.

For 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗲, Makaton can be particularly valuable when assisting in the search for an autistic person. Being able to use familiar signs and visual communication can help our volunteers build trust, reduce anxiety and communicate more effectively with someone who may find spoken communication difficult — helping us work together towards a safe outcome.

Today is a chance to celebrate the connections made possible through Makaton and to recognise the importance of inclusion, communication and understanding.

👥 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺👥

This week, we’re delighted to introduce you to Ian, 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿 of 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗲.

Ian plays a huge role in the organisation, not only taking care of the many responsibilities that come with being Chair, but also getting stuck in operationally as a Licensed Search Technician, Search Manager, Team Leader, Drone Team Pilot and TAQA (Training, Assessment and Quality Assurance).

From leadership and management to searching, drones, training and volunteering, Ian is a fantastic example of the many different skills and commitments that make up our team.
