The Lakeside car park is closed this weekend for the Lakesman Triathlon. If you are looking for somewhere to park, you can support our attempts to get a new play area for Keswick by parking in our Crosthwaite Road car park (what 3 words ///bakers.clocking.beards) for £5 all day - a bargain for Keswick, and a short walk into town alongside the River Greta!

Due to The Lakesman triathlon taking place this weekend, there'll be some temporary parking restrictions in Lakeside car park (next to the Theatre by the Lake).

📆From approximately 9am on Thursday 18 June, a section of the car park near the mountain rescue building will be closed.
📆Then, from Friday 19 June until Monday 22 June (until around 12pm) the full site will be closed off. The site will be reopened gradually in sections for public use.

The event team are expected to be fully off the site by 12pm on Tuesday 23 June.

Looking to the Future of Fitz Park Play Area

We have recently received enquiries about the steel ropes climbing frame in Fitz Park and whether it will be replaced.

The climbing frame was installed more than 15 years ago and has now reached the end of its lifespan. Replacing this single piece of equipment would cost in excess of £5,000.

After careful consideration, Keswick Town Council has decided not to replace the climbing frame. Instead, the Council is focusing its efforts on plans for a new and significantly improved play area for Fitz Park.

While the proposed new play area is still at the planning stage, we are actively exploring funding opportunities and fundraising options to help make this exciting project a reality. Our aim is to create a modern, inclusive and engaging space that can be enjoyed by local children, families and visitors for many years to come.

We hope the community will share our enthusiasm for the bigger vision we have for the future of play provision in Fitz Park.

We look forward to updating you on our progress and sharing more details as plans develop.

Join Us for a Tree Walk in Keswick Parks!

Have you ever wondered how the magnificent trees in our parks are cared for, how long they live, or what it takes to keep them healthy for future generations?

Keswick Parks and Keswick Town Council are delighted to invite you to a fascinating Tree Walk led by the Tree Officer from the Lake District National Park Authority.

During the walk, you'll learn about:
* Tree health and common challenges
* The lifespan of different trees
* How trees are managed and maintained
* The work that goes on behind the scenes to care for the beautiful trees in Keswick's parks

* Tuesday 14th July
* 5.00pm
* Meet at the main gates of Fitz Park

There's no need to book – simply turn up and join us!

We are sorry to see Councillor Rob Nelson resign but are very glad he will still be working with us on events. This is the formal notice of vacancy - if no by-election is called, then we will post another notice looking for co-options after 1st July 2026 - keep an eye out for that!

Lost Electric Bike

An electric bike was handed in to Keswick Town Council following the recent Keswick Mountain Festival and is currently being held at the Town Council offices.

If you think it may be yours, please contact us with a description of the bike and any identifying features. We will be happy to confirm whether it matches the bike we have.

Great News for Keswick Archers! ​​

Keswick Town Council is delighted to share the news that Keswick Archers are back in business and can continue providing this valued community activity for local people.

Our Clerk, Vivien, attended a meeting in Kendal yesterday and strongly supported the campaign to secure a new location for the club. During discussions, it was made clear that there was no other suitable space where the club could operate safely and continue serving its members.

We are pleased that Lake District National Park Authority has granted permission for the club to continue its activities on a suitable field in Portinscale.

Keswick Archers is a much-valued community resource, offering opportunities for people of all ages to take part in archery, develop new skills, and enjoy outdoor recreation. We know this news will be warmly welcomed by members, supporters, and the wider community.

Keswick Town Council would like to thank everyone involved in helping to secure the club’s future and wishes Keswick Archers every success in their new location.

Here's to many more years of archery in our community!

We know that building bike jumps, dens and tracks is something children have enjoyed for generations — and we absolutely understand the sense of adventure and excitement this brings.

However, we’re asking parents and young people to please avoid creating them in Keswick’s public parks and green spaces. This particular damage has taken place close to the existing BMX track on the Archery Field, which is already provided as a suitable space for bike riding and skills.

Unfortunately, digging holes, building ramps and removing turf causes significant damage to the grass, tree roots and natural habitats, as these photos show. It also creates safety risks for other park users and undo hours of hard work by our parks team, who work incredibly hard to keep these spaces beautiful and safe for everyone to enjoy.

We’re not trying to stop children getting outdoors, exploring or riding bikes — quite the opposite. We simply need to protect shared public spaces that are used by the whole community.

We’d really appreciate parents supporting us by encouraging children not to build tracks or jumps in the parks, and instead helping them find more suitable locations such as private land where permission has been given.

Our parks belong to everyone, and with a little help from the community we can keep them looking their best for residents and visitors alike. Thank you for your support with this. We really hope the Keswick community will get behind this and understand why this is not acceptable in this location.
