New Mayor selected for Kettering
Cllr Lauren Glanfield was selected to be the First Citizen of Kettering at the Annual Council meeting last night.
Kettering Town Council members voted for Cllr Glanfield, a Green Party member, to take on the office for the coming year.
During the ancient Mayor-Making ceremony, Cllr Glanfield was installed as Mayor and formally pledged to carry out her duties to the best of her judgment and ability.
The Mayor has confirmed the appointment of Rev. Sarah Bennett as her Mayorβs Chaplain. She will also be supported throughout her mayoral year by her Mayoral Consort, Paul Glanfield.
Cllr Glanfield plans to focus on volunteering, youth and family provisions and environmental initiatives. She is excited to develop the Parish Nature Recovery Plan and continue to work with local partners to rewild and make green spaces more accessible.
Cllr Glanfield said: βI am honoured to have the opportunity to champion our Town. There is so much positive work being done by charities and different local organisations, and I cannot wait to support their work. I am excited for the year ahead, and with the support of my fellow Town Councillors, we can continue the positive and inspirational projects that make Kettering such a unique and happy Townβ.
βI would like to give my gratitude to the outgoing Mayor Cllr Jameson, for all he has done over the last year and welcome Cllr Byatt as the Deputy Mayor and Rev Sarah Bennett as the Mayorβs Chaplain for the coming yearβ.
Working with Cllr Glanfield for the year will be her Mayoral Cadet, Cadet Lance Corporal Samuel Nicoll, 17 years old, who has been with the Kettering Royal Marine Cadets since May 2025. Samuel attends Tresham College and lives in Kettering Town Centre, and will accompany the Mayor on official engagements.
Samuel said: βI am really excited to be the Mayors Cadet as a Royal Marine Cadet. This is a chance to tell people about the Royal Marine Cadets in our community and show what young people can do in Kettering. I will get to go with the Mayor to events and meet people and I will be representing my Royal Marine Cadet detachment and all the Royal Marine Cadetsβ.
βI want to be a voice for people in Kettering. I hope to bring new ideas and encourage others to join the Royal Marine Cadets. As a Royal Marine Cadet I think discipline and teamwork and respect are very important. I want to show these values when I am the Mayors Cadetβ.
βI am looking forward to learning things and becoming more confident as the Mayors Cadet. Being the Mayors Cadet will be an experience for me and it will help me become a better person. I will get to do things and meet new people and I think this will be really good for me, as a Royal Marine Cadetβ.
Cllr Glanfield has selected Home-Start Kettering to be her chosen charity for the year, with all fundraising going to support the charity β donations can be made online here: www.justgiving.com/page/kettering-mayor-homestart
Councillors also voted Cllr Andy Byatt to become Deputy Mayor, who will act as a stand-in for the Mayor on official engagements.
The townβs historic mace and chains were used during the ceremony, along with the formal robes of office.
A new Mayor is elected every year at Kettering Town Councilβs Annual Council meeting in May. The Mayor chairs meetings of the full council and is also the First Citizen of the town of Kettering.
Cllr Glanfield will be available to attend and support events across the town. Enquiries to book the Mayor can be made to Zuzanna Brzostowska by emailing [email protected] or by going online: www.ketteringtowncouncil.gov.uk/the-mayor.
