How has your week been? Felt that you needed more? Could you be the difference when your community needs you most?

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service is looking for dedicated people to join our team as On-Call Firefighters. 🚒

On-Call Firefighters play a vital role in protecting their local communities. They respond to emergencies from home or work, receive specialist training, and develop valuable skills while earning additional income alongside their main job.

Whether you're self-employed, work locally, or are looking for a new challenge that makes a real difference, becoming an On-Call Firefighter could be for you.

We currently have On-Call Firefighters based at the following stations:

No previous firefighting experience is needed. Full training and ongoing support are provided.

We’d like to thank everyone who took some time out of their weekend to visit the Desborough Fire Station Open Day on Saturday (September 12) 🚒

It was fantastic to see so many of you come along, whether it was to watch our demonstrations, or speak with our firefighters and fire staff on how to stay safe or potentially become a wholetime or on-call firefighter.

We’ve already had some great feedback from people who attended, and it was great to be able to show you all the work we do to keep Desborough and the surrounding areas safe.

Thank you also to all the stalls and food vendors that attended, and local businesses – including Land Rover Experience Rockingham – for donations of raffle prizes. Raffle winners will be contacted shortly.

So far we have raised £445 (with more to come), which will be donated to the amazing Fire Fighters Charity 🔥

The Desborough Fire Station Open Day is fast approaching!!
We will be doing an RTC demo for you all to see and have the fire engine on display to have a look round🚒
There will be a raffle on sight raising money for the amazing Firefighters Charity
Prizes to be posted next week so keep an eye out!!
There will be the crew available to speak to about how to join, and prevention on sight to give some safety advice.

It has been a busy few months for Desborough Fire Station. Our dedicated crew have attended an array of fires working with colleagues from our brigade on large incidents and assisting neighbouring counties with fire incidents.
Due to the hot weather the county has seen a unprecedented attendance in wildfires. We would like to thank the farming community for helping the fire service in containing the fires and supporting us with farming machinery and water bowsers. A big thank you to Charlie, Allan, Tim and team.

Spread the word! We are opening the doors to the fire station here in Desborough next month. Join us on Saturday 12th September from 10am to 4pm.

You will have opportunity to explore a fire engine, chat to fire fighters, watch a live demo and pick up safety information.

This weekend saw Desborough hold its annual town carnival where our crew from the fire station joined in the celebrations.

Throughout the year you will see our firefighters and staff at many community events. If you see them, please pop and chat to them about any fire, water or road safety issues or even about what it is like to have a career in the fire service.

With the warmer summer weather, water may look inviting, but the temperature of the water can be low enough to cause 'Cold Water Shock'.
Parents - make sure your children are aware of the dangers about jumping in, things can quickly go wrong, even for strong swimmers:

- Cold water shock
- Hidden hazards under the surface
- Strong currents and unseen forces
- Shallow or changing depths
- Impact injuries from height (tombstoning)

Make sure they know what to do if someone gets into trouble in the water:
❌ Don’t jump in
✅ Call 999
✅ Use something to help from the side (ball, stick, life ring)

Remember: Float to Live if you fall in unexpectedly.

Our crew from were at the Atztec Football Club, showing off the fire engine and equipment. While they were there, the firefighters were signing up people for a Home Fire Safety Visit.

If you are eligible, we visit your home to deliver tailored fire safety advice and discuss any risks we find. We will also talk about how you should react or respond in an emergency.

If you don't want someone coming to your home, you can instead do an 0n-line self-assessment and get great advice about how to keep yourself safe.
