A huge thank you to The Land Trust, Councillors Matthew Kinton, Mike Caddy and Andrew Holt, and all the fantastic volunteers who joined us for our bulb planting on Knot Tiers Drive on Saturday! 💚🌱 Together we planted an amazing 750 Fritillaria, Crocus and Galanthus bulbs, plus a whole sack of daffodils! 🌼🌷 We can’t wait to see the wonderful display of colour next spring. 🌸🐝

⚽ Cllr Mark Watson represents UPC at the Cobblers Play Fair launch

Parish Councillor Mark Watson attended the event on behalf of Upton Parish Council to learn more about the Cobblers Play Fair programme, build relationships with key partners and ensure Upton’s voice is heard. 🤝

The NTFC Play Fair programme’s focusses on preventing bullying, online hate and discrimination, whilst promoting allyship and inclusive sporting opportunities.
Attending also provided an important opportunity to strengthen the Parish Council’s positive working relationship with Northampton Town Football Club, which directly neighbours Upton parish, and was a good chance to connect with others who can help make a difference locally. 💬⚽

Upton Parish Council’s mission is “Helping to Grow a Community to be Proud Of”. 🌱🏡 A parish council may be a small fish in a much bigger pond 🐟, but we still have a vital role to play. If we do not make our voice heard and secure a seat at the table with our larger and more powerful neighbours, the interests of Upton residents may not be fairly represented.

By attending events like this, Mark is helping to make sure Upton is visible, connected and represented when decisions and partnerships affecting our community are being shaped. 📣

🚗 New Speed Indicator Device now live on Upton High Street!
Road safety along this stretch of High Street was raised as a concern in our Upton Community Survey, so this is an issue residents told us they wanted addressed. 🗣️✅
The bespoke pole was funded through a grant from the Office of the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (OPFCC). 🙌 The solar-powered sign has been refurbished and redeployed from a previous location, giving existing equipment a new lease of life. ☀️♻️
The SID will remind drivers to check their speed and help improve road safety for everyone. 🚘🛣️
And by the way, doesn’t Upton look lovely in the October sunshine ☀️!!!

♻️ Public Service Announcement – West Northamptonshire Council Upton Parish Council is sharing this update to help residents prepare for the upcoming changes to WNC’s waste collection service, starting in spring 2027. Full details are on the WNC website and in the official poster below.
Many residents are understandably concerned about moving to a three‑weekly black bin collection. We recently spoke with a resident from the Daventry area, where this system has already been in place for several years. They told us:
“We were worried about how we were going to cope with the change — we thought the black bin was going to be overflowing if left for three weeks. The best advice I can give is use the food waste bin. We didn’t like this at first because we had a very small kitchen and it meant finding space for a compost caddy, but we got used to putting all of our food prep waste in it and were surprised by what a massive difference it made to the space (and lack of smell!) in our black bin. We also realised that maxing out the blue recycling bin is crucial — and this is a lot easier now as more things come in recyclable packaging.”
🌱 Key tips from residents already using the system:
• Make full use of the weekly food waste collection
• Maximise recycling — more packaging is recyclable than ever
• Small changes at home can make a big difference to bin space and odour
Remember The new 1,2,3 + service will only be rolled out to properties with individual wheeled bins, so if you live in a flat and have communal bins, or if you have a sack collection, your collections will continue as normal.
Upton Parish Council will continue to share updates from WNC as they become available.
