🚧 Install, maintain and remove signs, cones, barriers and temporary traffic lights.
📋 Follow site drawings, job instructions and safety procedures.
🔍 Carry out site checks and report issues promptly.
📸 Complete job packs, photographs and maintenance records accurately.
🚐 Complete daily vehicle checks and report defects.
🤝 Work professionally with colleagues, clients and the public.
🦺 Wear correct PPE and keep sites tidy, safe and well maintained.

It's National Customer Service Week.

In traffic management, our customer isn't just the client who books the job. It's the driver stuck in a lane closure at 7am. The resident who can't get off their drive. The cyclist working out where the diversion goes.

For most of them, our operative is the only person they'll speak to on that scheme.

So we train our crews to do more than set out a Chapter 8 layout. Explain what's happening. Point people the right way. Stay calm when someone's had a bad morning.

It's part of how we've kept a Zero Harm record since 2012. Clear, visible, well-managed sites are safer for everyone, and they leave road users with a better view of the work being done.

This week, thank you to every Signal operative who represents our clients well, on every shift.

Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes within a TM Cad Technician role? 👀

👋 Meet Gav Bennett, our CAD Technician at Signal.

Before our teams arrive on site, Gav has already helped map out exactly how the job needs to work.

He assesses the road, checks widths and creates the CAD drawings showing what traffic management is needed and where it needs to go.

The drawings help our clients with permits and council approvals, while giving our operatives a clear plan of the layout, signage and equipment they’ll need on site.

Everything is designed with safety and compliance at the forefront, following Red Book and Chapter 8 guidance.

Because before the first cone goes down, the plan needs to be right.

A look behind the scenes at what it takes to get a traffic management scheme safely set up and ready for the road.

Every cone, sign and piece of equipment has a purpose but it’s the teamwork behind the setup that brings it all together.

The nights are getting darker and visibility matters.

As we head towards autumn, our teams will increasingly be working in lower light, alongside live traffic and changing road conditions.

For traffic management, being visible isn’t a small detail. From the correct hi-vis and site lighting to clear signage and well-planned layouts, it all plays a part in keeping operatives and road users safe.

But there’s something all of us can do too.

Slow down. Stay alert. Give people working on our roads the space they need.

How much project time is actually lost before works even begin?

Planning, CADs, permits, mobilisation and communication all have an impact on how smoothly a project gets moving.

A little throwback to July 🏏💗

For the second year running, we were proud to support Worcestershire Cricket Foundation, donating our barriers to help transform Worcester city centre into pop-up cricket pitches.

It was a brilliant day bringing local businesses and the community together, all while raising vital funds to support community programmes across Worcestershire.
