☺️A Heartfelt Thank You to Mauchline☺️

As the Mauchline Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) enters its final phase, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve shared. Since our journey began, our team has thoroughly enjoyed every moment of supporting the Mauchline community.

From working with local property owners on restoring their historic buildings, to collaborating with the pupils from the local schools on our many educational projects, it has been a privilege to witness the passion you all have for our village’s rich heritage. Whether we were installing hanging baskets for the Holy Fair or uncovering secrets at our community archaeological digs, your enthusiasm has been the driving force behind every success.

‼️We Need Your Voice: Share Your Feedback‼️

The impact of CARS in Mauchline is now more visible than ever, but our story isn’t complete without your perspective. We are currently conducting a final evaluation to understand how these improvements have benefited you and what you hope for the future of the conservation area.

At the start of the Mauchline CARS project, we invited the community to help research the village’s heritage. This led local historian and illustrator Elizabeth Dunlop to bridge a major gap in our history: the story of the White Monks of Melrose in Mauchline.

Through extensive archival research, Elizabeth has produced a new book detailing the Cistercian monks’ arrival in 1165, their influence on the village’s layout, and the impact of medieval wars. The book also covers the Reformation and key local figures like Walter FitzAlan and John Durie.

We are incredibly grateful to Elizabeth for her dedication and to Dane Love of Carn Publishing for his support in bringing this history to life.

Purchase directly from . Books are also available from Boswell's Coach House Amazon.co.uk and Waterstones. All proceeds benefit the Mauchline Community Association.

In late 2025, we partnered with local artist Elaine Johnston on an education project at Mauchline Primary School. Over three days, pupils were gifted with canvases and paints to create art inspired by local heritage.

These works were showcased at the Burns Memorial Tower gallery, drawing a fantastic turnout from the community. To conclude the project, the individual pieces were digitally combined into a Robert Burns mosaic print. A huge well done to the talented young artists and thanks to everyone involved!

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Mauchline CARS 🎅🏻

We have made considerable progress across 2025 towards the completion of our planned projects. We have supported multiple building repair & restoration projects, provided public realm improvements and facilitated a final education art project.

We would like to thank the Mauchline community, friends & parteners who have helped support Mauchline CARS this last year. With the project set to conclude in March 2026 we are excited to deliver our final stage to the people of Mauchline.

In partnership with the Mauchline Burns Club, Kays Scotland and the Fairburn Hotel, Mauchline CARS facilitated a small improvement project to the large flowerbed to the side of the Fairburn Hotel.

Overall preparation works were completed by East Ayrshire Council’s Greener Communities Team whilst the Mauchline Burns Club completed the finishing touches adding plants and gravel.

A granite sculpture was kindly gifted by Kays Scotland, curling stone manufactures to the Winter Olympics. A granite plaque will be added soon to the area to note the investment made.

The flowerbed will be cared for by Natalie and her team at the Fairburn Hotel. We would like to extend a big thank you to all involved, we think the overall improvement to the area is a great positive to the community.
