Meet Your Councillors: Councillor Andy Cooper 👋
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be introducing you to all of our Councillors so you can put a face to the name and get to know the people who represent you.
First up, meet Councillor Andy Cooper, who represented Kimberley between 2011 and 2015, and was then re-elected in 2023.
Tell us a bit about yourself, Andy 👇
I moved to Notts 40 years ago with work, and spent my career as a shift manager at Total GB in Colwick before retiring in 2007. I’ve always been interested in politics, and was an active union member during my working life.
Outside of that, I enjoy sport, philately, ornithology and reading, and I’ve even written and self-published a book. I’m married to Sue and we’re very proud grandparents and great-grandparents.
What do you enjoy most about being a Councillor?
Becoming a councillor was my way of getting involved with the community I have called my home for 40 years. Being able to help residents with their problems is incredibly rewarding..
What issues do residents most often contact you about?
In Kimberley I get a lot of queries about housing and about anti-social behaviour.
Your favourite place in Broxtowe?
That’s a tough one. Kimberley Cricket Club, Colliers Wood and the DH Lawrence Museum are all favourites. I also love Attenborough Nature Reserve.
And finally….the most important question 🍪
Favourite biscuit? Ginger. Every time
