Meet Your Councillors: Councillor Andy Cooper 👋

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be introducing you to all of our Councillors so you can put a face to the name and get to know the people who represent you.

First up, meet Councillor Andy Cooper, who represented Kimberley between 2011 and 2015, and was then re-elected in 2023.

Tell us a bit about yourself, Andy 👇
I moved to Notts 40 years ago with work, and spent my career as a shift manager at Total GB in Colwick before retiring in 2007. I’ve always been interested in politics, and was an active union member during my working life.

Outside of that, I enjoy sport, philately, ornithology and reading, and I’ve even written and self-published a book. I’m married to Sue and we’re very proud grandparents and great-grandparents.

What do you enjoy most about being a Councillor?
Becoming a councillor was my way of getting involved with the community I have called my home for 40 years. Being able to help residents with their problems is incredibly rewarding..

What issues do residents most often contact you about?
In Kimberley I get a lot of queries about housing and about anti-social behaviour.

Your favourite place in Broxtowe?
That’s a tough one. Kimberley Cricket Club, Colliers Wood and the DH Lawrence Museum are all favourites. I also love Attenborough Nature Reserve.

And finally….the most important question 🍪
Favourite biscuit? Ginger. Every time

I am very pleased that after the question at full council over this matter some action is finally being taken. For too long residents have been let down - let's hope this changes things. Both Councillors Mee and Councillor Cooper have been involved in this issue since being elected. I hope this finally ensures the tower is fully renovated.

Residents are welcome to get in touch as always.

We must always remember them - today we laid a wreath each, on behalf of us as councillors and Alex Norris MP.

Wonderful service lead by Barbara Holbrook, and huge turnout.

An extremely important event to remember all those who died for our freedoms.
