Last night, carried out its annual trial deployment of the temporary flood barrier at Lowestoft, working on behalf of East Suffolk Council.

The barrier forms an important part of Lowestoft’s flood protection measures and can be deployed during a significant east coast surge tide, following the devastating 2013 surge.

This year’s trial took place at night around the dry dock on Commercial Road, where access can be challenging. The exercise went smoothly, with good coordination between the Water Management Alliance , East Suffolk Council and the Port of Lowestoft (ABP).

Regular trial deployments help ensure the barrier, equipment and teams are ready to respond when needed.

We’re pleased to share an update on how wildlife is thriving alongside construction at the Benacre & Kessingland Flood Management Project.
🐍 Extensive areas of the site have been secured with reptile fencing to help prevent reptiles from entering active construction areas and to protect them while works take place. The aerial view gives a sense of the scale of this mitigation measure across the site.
🦡 An artificial badger sett installed in 2025 is now occupied, with monitoring footage showing badgers moving into their new abode.
🐀 Our water vole mitigation and monitoring, has shown positive signs of their continued presence recorded in upstream areas of the project.
🌱 Together, these are encouraging signs that careful ecological mitigation is helping wildlife thrive alongside our flood management works.

After months of a dry riverbed, water is flowing through the River Deben at Ufford once again. 💧

The is proud to have worked with Ufford Parish Council to deliver this essential first phase of recovery, working with local communities, landowners and partner organisations to reopen the main river channel and help restore the flow.

The work marks an important first step in protecting the river and surrounding area from erosion and flooding.

🚧 Exeter Drain Improvement Project - August Update

More than 70 metres of the 300-metre Culvert 1 replacement between Maple Grove and Cley Hall Drive is now complete, with further work progressing across the project.

It might be the summer holidays, but work is continuing to progress across the Benacre & Kessingland Flood Management Project. ☀️🚧

There’s been some important progress on site in recent weeks:
🔹 Piling works are on track to be completed next month
🔹 Embankment construction is progressing well across the site
🔹 Half of the Kessingland embankments have now reached their designed height
🔹 Work is continuing on the Lothingland embankments

Strengthening flood resilience across the Pevensey Levels 💧

Dr Kieran Mullan for Bexhill & Battle visited the Pevensey Levels to see first-hand how Government funding is helping the Pevensey and Cuckmere Water Level Management Board improve critical infrastructure and strengthen resilience across the area.

The visit included Spaghetti Junction, a key drainage junction east of Hailsham, where recent improvements are helping to secure the network and improve water level management.

The wider programme has also delivered improvements to tilting weirs, culverts, banks and pumping infrastructure – helping to protect communities, farmland and the internationally important Pevensey Levels.

A programme of improvement works delivered through the Government’s IDB Storm Recovery and Asset Improvement Fund has strengthened critical flood risk infrastructure across the district.

Today Terry Jermy MP - South West Norfolk visited the completed Eau Brink Outfall, which now provides enhanced resilience against the tides in the River Great Ouse and protects around 3,763 hectares of land, more than 130 properties and two pumping stations.

🚧 Progress continues across the Upper Thurne Project!
There's been plenty happening on site over the past few weeks, with major construction milestones reached at Potter Heigham, Martham and Brograve.
At Potter Heigham and Martham, sheet piling has now been completed and work is underway constructing the underground wet wells that will form the heart of the new pumping stations. Meanwhile, sheet piling has begun at Brograve as construction continues to gather pace.
