We're open an extra day this weekend for the Bank Holiday, so both Sunday AND Monday (and then Wednesday and Thursday as usual). There's loads to enjoy and discover, with the incredible works of iconic sculptor Lynn Chadwick forming this year's major contemporary art exhibition across the parkland and in the house.

In the Walled Garden, the wisteria is enjoying its final breathtaking flourish, peonies are bursting out all over, foxgloves will soon be dancing ... and the long borders are really starting to pop.

Plus the cafe serves the most delectable freshly baked cakes and other goodies!

Young people up to aged 18 are totally free.

Experience the extraordinary: Skyspace At Dusk, Thursday 21 and Friday 22 May.

Through an aperture in the ceiling, lose yourself in the change of light from day to night in James Turrell’s tranquil Skyspace: Seldom Seen. A sequenced light program interacts with the atmospheric light to create a spectrum of colours and an immersive sensory experience.

Led by arts expert Amanda Geitner, you will enjoy refreshments before and afterwards in the Old Kitchen, with plenty of opportunity for conversation and contemplation.

Due to cancellations, we have a few tickets available. Pre-booking essential.

"Chadwick’s sculptures feel like presences, almost intruders.
This is why these they work at Houghton. His angular bronze
figures and beasts already feel architectural, so placing them within the classical architecture, the grounds and the house, brings out a wonderful tension." James Payne, Art Plugged.

Lynn Chadwick at Houghton Hall, selected days until 4 October 2026

Lynn Chadwick’s jagged, engineered figures helped redefine British sculpture after the war. This major Houghton Hall exhibition offers a timely reappraisal of his work.

Our garden team enjoying free time this weekend in ... the garden! It was so lovely to have Fabian visit (centre of group pic) - last year's brilliant student who is currently tending the gardens of Buckingham Palace no less. And there's head gardener Richard, blending in, and senior horticulturist Lindsay, amongst the tulips and fabulously 'out there' wisteria. We're open tomorrow, Bank Holiday Monday, so come and enjoy it for yourself.

Here's a link to help plan your day - book online and save. Free for 18 and under.
