Fore Street, Kingsbridge is reopening to traffic today! 🎉

After being closed since January, it’s fantastic to see Fore Street open again for traffic and businesses finally able to welcome people back without the roadworks and fencing outside their doors.

Throughout the closure, we’ve tried to do what we can to support Fore Street traders and keep their businesses visible. We provided the initial coverings for the Heras fencing to help show people where the shops were, called for clearer signage and continued to raise concerns where we felt more could be done to help.

We also launched the ‘Pop to the Shops’ 💗 campaign with lovekingsbridge and Hello Kingsbridge encouraging people to keep shopping locally and supporting Fore Street businesses through some of the quieter, darker months.

Behind the scenes, we’ve kept the conversation going and continued to push for improvements.

The free parking at Quay Car park and Fore Street will continue until 31 August.

Today though, it’s all about looking forward. ❤️

Fantastic to see the vintage cars and emergency services led by the Coastguard leading the opening to traffic so if you’re in Kingsbridge this weekend, take a wander up, pop into the shops and show these brilliant local businesses some love. ❤️

They’ve certainly earned it!

📣 Great news! 14 August Fore Street, Kingsbridge reopening! 📣

𝐖𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟏𝟒𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭, 𝐚 𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 𝐚𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐞, 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞.

One carriageway now has its top surface of fresh, shiny tarmac ready for vehicles. The other carriageway will have the pumping pipes removed, repairs completed, and prepared for its new surface. Traffic flow has been altered while this work takes place, so please drive with extra care around the site.

Concrete chambers are being removed from the taxi rank manhole, roundabout line markings are being reinstated, and a handful of final tasks are being wrapped up. It’s a busy few days ahead, but the end is now firmly in sight.

What a fabulous evening we had on Thursday at Verse Kingsbridge

A huge thank you to Paul and Hayley for hosting our latest Business Club and creating such a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

The food was exceptional. Slow-roasted garlic spread over fresh focaccia… and that was just the starter! 😋 The rotisserie was fantastic too, and we would highly recommend booking in to try it.

We also heard from five brilliant local organisations, each sharing a little about their work and what they have coming up.

Paul introduced us to Verse and some of the exciting plans they have in the pipeline, while Jules and Jill from KATS Kingsbridge shared more about the company, its productions and opportunities for local businesses to get involved.

Steve from Tumbly Hill Wellbeing Hub Wellbeing Hub spoke about the vital services they provide and encouraged everyone to complete their short survey to help demonstrate the need for continued support and funding.

We heard from Hello Kingsbridge, who are looking for volunteers and shared the advertising opportunities available to local businesses, while Kitty and Hugo from Salcombe Slipcast told us about the exciting next steps for their pottery business.

Thank you to all our speakers for giving everyone plenty to think about, and to everyone who came along and joined us. It was great to see you!

This feedback is important. 🚨

It’s provided as evidence to support Devon County Council in their bid to get funding from central government to rebuild the A379.
