The Cecil William Rutherford Scholarship Trust provides funding for ex-pupils of Newland St John’s Church of England Academy and Holderness Academy. Scholarships are awarded to ex-pupils of each school alternately every year. Ex-pupils from age 16 upwards are eligible providing they are working towards qualifications related to electricity, plumbing, building, architecture and medicine (including nursing and physiotherapy.) Courses can be full time, part-time, further or higher education or apprenticeships. Funding is paid following confirmation from the education or training provider that the applicant has commenced their course.

Applications for this year are sought from applicants who are or will be ex-students of Holderness Academy. The closing date for applications is Friday 6 November 2026.

A new Project SEARCH supported internship programme is launching in partnership with Amazon.

The programme is for young people aged 18 to 24 who have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and are working towards paid employment. The supported internship will help young people make a successful transition from education into employment, through structured workplace learning and tailored support.

Amazon’s supported internship will offer places to young people interested in areas such as warehousing and logistics at their centre in Melton. The year-long programme will begin in September, and students will take part in a series of rotations across different departments, supported by a job coach and workplace mentor. There will also be classroom-based learning delivered by Humber Learning Consortium to develop key employability skills.

SEND Reforms - parent and carer survey
Every child and young person with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) should receive the right support to help them thrive at home, in school and in their wider community. We are reviewing how SEND services currently work and how planned SEND reforms can improve support for children, young people and families.

We want to hear directly from parents and carers about your experiences. Your views will help us understand what is working well, where families face challenges, and what needs to change. Your feedback will be used to help shape future services and improve how support is planned and delivered locally.

The survey should take around 10 minutes to complete. Your responses will be kept confidential and will not affect any current support you or your child receive.

Thank you for sharing your experiences, your voice is incredibly important in shaping better SEND services for children and families.

KWL’s apprenticeship open event is taking place on Saturday 7th March, to attend the event registration is required.

Apprenticeships are being offered in admin, electrical, joinery, health & safety, plumbing/gas, plastering/tiling and vehicle maintenance.

GCSE grade 4 or above in English and maths is required for all apprenticeships expect for electrical apprenticeships where grade 5 or above in English, maths and science is required.
