Why do we ask about happiness, stress, loneliness and hope in every Hull People's Panel survey?

Because tracking these measures over time helps us understand what's changing in residents' lives and provides evidence to help shape local services, support and priorities.

🎢 Hull is hosting the Music Cities Convention this week, bringing together music leaders, artists and policymakers from around the world to explore the role music plays in our communities.

It's a fitting moment to look back at what Hull residents told us about music through the Hull People's Panel.

🌟 Nearly 9 in 10 residents believe children should have access to music opportunities outside of school, highlighting the importance of supporting the next generation of local talent.

But music isn't just something Hull residents want for young people... it's something many enjoy themselves:

🎸 11% currently play a musical instrument, while a further 16% would like to learn.
🎀 6% sing in a band or choir, with 9% interested in developing their singing skills.
🎟️ 45% had attended a gig or music concert in Hull within the previous two years.
🎡 Pop and rock concerts were the most popular live music choice, enjoyed by 73% of residents.

πŸ“’ The Hull People's Panel survey closes soon – and we're asking residents what could encourage more people to vote.

At Hull's May 2026 elections, voter turnout was 30%, meaning 7 in 10 eligible voters did not cast a ballot.

Would online voting help? Better information about candidates and policies? More flexibility over where and when people can vote? Or something else?

We want to hear your views.

🌊 Today is World Oceans Day, a chance to reflect on the important role our oceans can play in building a more sustainable future.

Our August 2024 Panel found strong support for ocean-based renewable energy among Hull residents, with 92% supporting wave and tidal power and 91% supporting offshore wind energy.

These findings highlight the value residents place on harnessing the power of the sea as part of the transition to cleaner, renewable sources of energy.

πŸŒπŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ Today is Global Parents Day

Hull's Community Plan includes the ambition of being a Child Friendly City where everyone can achieve their potential.

June 2024's Hull People's Panel survey highlighted just how important support for families is. Nearly half of respondents (46%) said that providing support and facilities for parents and carers of children and young people is one of the most important ways to measure success in achieving this ambition.
