We were delighted to receive six boxes of donations, including men’s underwear in multiple sizes, men’s socks, winter hats, gloves and thermals, as well as a box of women’s underwear, socks, hats, slipper socks and tights.

The donations have already been shared with our service users, who were incredibly grateful to receive these much-needed items.

“I’ve been everywhere. I haven’t stopped walking for days.”

Words from a conversation that artist Amy Precious says she never expected to be part of — and a reminder of why creating space for people to be heard matters.

Walking, 2026 is a resident’s personal retelling of her experience of living on the streets of Hull, featured in The Sound of Your Own Voice exhibition.

Through film, spoken stories and creative expression, residents have been able to tell their stories in their own words.

We feel incredibly privileged to have supported this project and to see our residents’ voices at its heart.

🧡 Starting a new journey with Humbercare

Sammy started her Humbercare journey just over three years ago as a Housing Support Officer. After taking seven years away from work to raise her family, she was ready for a new challenge and wanted to find a role where she could make a genuine difference.

With no previous experience in the sector, Sammy was supported by her manager to develop her skills and confidence, progressing to Senior Practitioner – a role she has now been doing for two and a half years.

Today, Sammy loves the variety her role brings. Her favourite part of the job is celebrating achievements and positive outcomes with the people she supports, as well as supporting colleagues through staff supervisions.

"I absolutely love my job, there is never a day I do not look forward to coming to work."

Sammy's story shows that you don't always need experience in the sector to start a rewarding career. With the right support, passion and dedication, there are opportunities to learn, grow and progress.

If you're looking for more than just a job and want a career where you can make a genuine difference every day, Humbercare could be the place for you.

🧡 More than a job – a career where you can grow.

Ellie joined Westbourne House as a Social Inclusion Officer and, through her dedication and passion for supporting others, progressed to become a Support Worker before taking on her current role as Senior Practitioner.

Over the past five years, Ellie has developed her confidence and communication skills while supporting people through their daily lives, celebrating their achievements and helping them build greater independence. It's a role that has shaped her career just as much as the lives of the people she supports.

"I feel strongly that everyone should experience working in a setting such as Westbourne. I have learnt so much, and my confidence and communication skills have improved massively. I love my job and would love for others to experience the work we do."

If you're looking for more than just a job and want a career where you can make a genuine difference every day, Westbourne House could be the place for you.

🧡 Sometimes the right career is the one you least expect.

Annemarie began her Humbercare journey 10 years ago with our SES service before moving to Westbourne House. Today, she's our Assistant Manager, working alongside the Service Manager to support both residents and staff in creating a safe, person-centred environment where people can rebuild their lives.

Although every day brings new challenges, Annemarie says it's the moments of progress that make it all worthwhile – whether that's someone moving into independent living, learning new skills or taking the next step towards a brighter future.

"When I first joined Westbourne House, I wasn't sure it was the right place for me. Looking back now, I couldn't imagine working anywhere else. Every person has their own story and deserves to be listened to. Come and join us at Westbourne House – you might just find, like I did, that it's exactly where you're meant to be."

If you're looking for more than just a job and want a career where you can make a genuine difference every day, Westbourne House could be the place for you.

🧡Every career starts somewhere

Rebecca joined Westbourne House as a Housing Support Officer and, through her passion for supporting others, progressed to become our Social Inclusion Officer.

Every day, Rebecca creates opportunities for the people we support to learn new skills, try new experiences and build lasting confidence through meaningful activities, community outings and life skills sessions that promote wellbeing, independence and social inclusion. It's a role that makes a real difference – and one she loves being part of every day.

"My favourite part of the job is supporting people to discover and pursue their own interests. It's incredibly rewarding to create experiences that are truly meaningful to them."

If you're looking for more than just a job and want a career where you can make a genuine difference every day, Westbourne House could be the place for you.

🧡 Welcome to a Week at Westbourne House 🧡

As we come to the end of the week, here's one final glimpse into the everyday work of our team and the support that helps people build confidence and move towards brighter futures.

Friday:

🔸 Supporting a fresh start – Today I supported one of my service users as they moved into their new property. Moving home is a significant milestone, and being there to offer reassurance and practical support helps make the transition a little easier.

🔸 Encouraging wellbeing – I reminded one of my service users that the Mental Health Drop-In was taking place today, and they agreed to attend with my support. Sometimes, a gentle reminder and someone to go with can be the encouragement needed to take that first step.

🔸 Celebrating the little things – I added my own message to our 'What Makes You Happy?' tree. It's been lovely to read everyone's heartfelt notes and see the different things that bring people joy. Small moments like these help create a positive, supportive environment where everyone feels valued.

Every day at Westbourne House is an opportunity to make a real difference. If you're looking for a rewarding career where compassion, teamwork and support are at the heart of what you do, we'd love to hear from you. Come and help us change lives.

🧡 Welcome to a Week at Westbourne House 🧡

Here's another glimpse into the everyday work of our team and the support that helps people build confidence and move towards brighter futures.

Thursday:

🔸 Starting the day with welfare checks – My teammate and I completed our morning welfare checks, taking time to check in with everyone, offer support where needed, and help ensure people felt safe and ready for the day ahead.

🔸 Welcoming someone new – I prepared and cleaned a room ready for a new resident before completing their booking-in. Creating a warm, welcoming environment and helping someone settle into a new place can make a real difference during what is often a difficult time.

🔸 Supporting through shared mealtimes – Our Catering Officer made a delicious cottage pie for tea, which I served before cleaning the kitchen afterwards. Mealtimes are about more than food – they provide an opportunity for conversation, routine and helping people feel at home.

Whether we're welcoming someone new, offering practical support or simply taking time to listen, our Provide, Prevent, Promote values are always at the heart of everything we do.

🧡 Welcome to a Week at Westbourne House 🧡

Here's another glimpse into the everyday work of our team and the support that helps people build confidence and move towards brighter futures.

Wednesday:

🔸 Starting the day together – It was my turn to serve breakfast this morning, and everyone was in great spirits. Sharing a meal is a simple but important way to check in, build positive relationships and help people start the day feeling supported.

🔸 Supporting recovery through ReNew – I accompanied one of my service users to our in-house ReNew drop-in to discuss their treatment plan. Having access to specialist support on-site makes it easier for people to engage with the help they need and take positive steps in their recovery.

🔸 Celebrating progress – I completed my monthly paperwork with one of my service users, reviewing their Steps to Progress. This month they achieved some fantastic milestones, including sticking to a budgeting plan, reconnecting with family, and taking their medication consistently. Recognising these achievements helps build confidence and shows just how far people have come.

Every day brings new opportunities to encourage progress, celebrate achievements and support people on their journey towards greater independence.
